TOWEL RAGK, No.269,1;71. Patented De0.19,1882' L-TNE EEE. INvEN-FUR.
fi wm g 44/6? "UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. BRICKLEY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
TOWEL-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,171, dated December 19, 1882.
Application filed January 12,1882. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A.BRIOKLEY,
' of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Towel-Racks and I declare .the' following to be a specification thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Like letters indicate like parts. Figure l is a back elevation of my improved towel-rack. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. In the drawings, A represents the bracket or plate by which the rack is fastened to the commode or stand. The attaching-plate A is connected to a swinging arm, B, by means of the hinge G. The swinging arm B is provided with a pin, upon which are hinged or journaled the rods D- -one above another-in such a manner that each rod can be moved independent of the others. The hinge C connects the arm B with a small curved arm on theattaching-plate A in such a way as to enable the attachment of the rack to the back E of the commode or wash-stand instead of fastening it to the front or sides, as hitherto, where the smooth and fin- ,ished'surface is marred by the driving of the screws into it and the fitting of the plate or bracket thereon. Being fastened to the plain unfinished back piece and provided with this I hinge the rack can be brought into'any desired position. The arm B can be swung around the corner to the side, presentinga'convenient arrangement, as shown in solid lines in Fig. 2, or the whole rack-arm, rods, and all-can be swung back behind the stand out of the way and wholly concealed from sight, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. This arrangement is also desirable for convenience in packing and transporting this kind offurnitnre, as the folding back brings the rack snugly against the commode, avoiding the danger of breakage or defacement, as well as securing greater compactness.
I am aware of the invention of J. A. Reynolds, described in Letters Patent N 0. 158,739, dated January 12, 1875, and do not claim any device therein shown but I claim as a new and useful invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A towel-rack consisting of the attachingplate'A, having a projecting arm, B, hinged thereto, and rods D, arranged one above another andpivoted to the arm B at its outer end, as herein shown and described.
' CHARLES A. BRICKLEY.
