DEVICE FOR SECURlNG THE ENDS OF CARPET IN ROLLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,290, dated February 21, 1888.
Application filed July 23, 1887. Serial No. 245310. (No model.)
T 0 0155 whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DAVID P. CLARK and IlIANFRED U. Loans, of Miamisburg, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Securing the Ends of Carpet in Rolls, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a View of my device for securing the ends of carpet in rolls, and Fig. 2 is a view of the same applied to a roll of carpet.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, easily applied, and reliable device, for the purpose of securing and confining the free ends or flaps of carpeting, matting, and other goods put up in similar form. By this means the loss of time and annoyance which attend the use of cords and other ordinary appliances may be'avoided-and the goods freely handled without becoming unrolled.
The device consists of a metallic pin to be inserted between the folds in the end of a roll of carpet, and. having an eyelet formed in the head of said pin, through which passes an elastic cord which is provided at one end with a metallic hook. The cord is slightly larger than the eyelet, causing a frictional resistance which may be overcome by a moderate tension. The object of making the cord adjustable in length between the pin and the hook is to adapt it to rolls of various sizes.
WV hen it is desired to exhibit the goods, it is only necessary to release the hook. The pin in the end of the roll is not removed, and retains the cord until the hook is again needed, when it can be immediately replaced.
The construction and application of the device will be readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which A represents the metallic pin, B the elastic cord, and G the metallic hook.
What we claim as new is- 1. A device for securing the flaps or ends of carpet in rolls, consisting of an elastic cord and a metallic pin with perforated head or eyelet, through which is passed said elastic cord having at one end a metallic hook, substantially as herein set forth.
2. In a device for securing the flaps or ends of carpet in rolls, a metallic pin having a perforated head or eyelet to receive a cord, in combination with said cord having a hook at one end, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing We have hereunto set our hands, this 15th day of June, 1887, in the presence of witnesses.
DAVID P. CLARK. MANFRED U. LOREE.
