UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN W. RAYMOND, OF COUPEVILLE, WASHINGTON TERRITORY.
CLASP FOR RIBBON-ROLLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.329,212, dated October 27, 1885.
Application filed June 6, 1885. Serial No. 167,894. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN W. RAYMOND, of Ooupeville, in the county of Island and Territory of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Clasp for Ribbon-Rolls, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a clasp or fastening device for application to pieces of ribbon, braid, lace, tape, or any goods wound on blocks or spools, for keeping the goods always nicely rolled and fastened at the end without the use of pins, and at the same time permit the goods to be conveniently drawn off from the block or spool.
The invention consists of a clasp made of a piece of spring metal folded upon itself to form parallel clasping-arms, one arm being bent to form a lip or stop to keep the clasp in place upon the goods and the goods in place upon the roll.
Reference is to be had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a roll of tape or ribbon secured by my new clasp. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on line w x of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the clasp.
The clasp A is provided with arms a a, and is applied to the ribbon B on spool Oby passing the lower arm, a, through the coils of ribbon to bring one, two, or more coils between the arms a c.
The clasp may be made of steel wire; but I preferto make it of a plate of steel or other spring metal, and it may be made of different lengths to suit fabrics of different widths.
In making the clasp the wire or plate is bent double, so that the arms a a will stand parallel or nearly parallel with each other, and then the end of the arm a will be bent down over the end of the arm a to form the lip or stop a which runs against the edge of the roll, as shown clearly in Fig. 2, so that it will act as a stop to keep the clasp in place, and also as a guard to prevent the coils of ribbon from slipping ed gewise on the roll and gettin g out of place thereon.
Made as described, the device is cheap, may be used over and over again, and is very convenient, easily applied, and is very effective and reliable for its purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a clasp for ribbonrolls, composed of parallel arms a a, the arm a being bent to form stop a substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
EDWIN W. RAYMOND.
