Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OORODON-S. CANNON, OF LIGONIER, INDIANA.
BARREL-HOOP.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,799, dated February 14,1888.
Application liled December 19,1887. Serial No. 258,326. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoRoDoN S. CANNON, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Ligonier, in the county of Noble and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Im-v view of the same.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the barrel, and B thev hoop secured around the same. The said hoop consists of the strap C and the loops or rings D, secured to the ends of the same. rlhese rings or loops are preferably triangular in form, with their apices projecting from the ends of the strap.
The ends of the strap are provided .with tongues E, which are bent around the base of the triangular loop, and then riveted to the main portion of the strap, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. In order that there may be no lateral movement of the loops or rings, I con,- strnct in the bases of the same the angular extensions or projections F, which form the parallel shoulders G, between Which the edges of the tongues E rest when passed around the extensions F, as shown in Fig. 2.
In practice the strap is passed around the barrel, the loops andthe ends of the strap being brought close together, causing the strap to bind around the barrel. The two loops are then securely fastened by means of a tie-wire, H, passed alternately through and ,around each of the same, as clearly shown.
The strap is made of strong iexible metal, and can consequently be appliedto a barrel of any diameter. rIhe device can be extended-in lin a straight line, so that a large number can is thought to be of advantage when handling.
and adjusting the ends of the hoop on the barrel.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
l. A barrel-.hoop consisting of a' flexible strap, the loops or rings secured to the ends of the straps, and a tie-Wire passed varound and alternately through said loops, substan tially as set forth.
2. A barrel-hoop consisting of a exible strap, the loops or rings having. extensions to receiveV theends of the strap, and a tie-Wire passed through and around said loops or rings, substantially as specified. 3. A barrel-hoop consisting of a flexible strap having tongues at its ends, loops or rings having extensions through and around Which said tongues are passed, and a tiewire for se curing said loops or rings, substantially as described and shown. `1
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of t'wo witnesses.
OORODON CANNON.
