JOHANN B. V, FijRSTENWARTHEE-OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MEDICINE CUP AND STOPPERN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,483, dated February 7,1888.
Application filed May26,1 887. Serial No. 239,402. (Modem v p q To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHANN B. v. F'tiRs'rEN- WARTHER, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented, a new and Improved Medicine Cup and Stopper, of whichthefoL lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a cup of the desired dimensions, combined with and secured to a cork or stopper in such manner that the cork will be at right angles with the vertical axis of the cup.
Reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in
which Figure l is a view of the upper part of a bottle, partly -in section, provided with my improved cup and stopper, the stopper being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of a cup carrying a stoppcrin accordance with my invention, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of my combined corkscrewand cup.
A in the drawings represents a cup or other receptacle, which may be made of any desired material-such as metal, celluloid, rubber, &c.
The cup A has secured'to its side, at right angles to the vertical axis of the cup, as shown in the figures, a corkscrew, a, for use in with.-
drawing a cork, b, from a bottle, When the screw is placed at right angles to the cork,
the person using it can,-by inserting a finger in the cavity of the cup, readily extract the cork, Fig. 1. If desired, the'corkscrew a may be dispensed with, and the stopper 6, of any suitable material, may be glued or in other suitable manner firmly attached to the cup' A at right angles to its vertical axis.
The cup A may be made capable of holding any desired quantity of liquid-for instance,
be emptied at once.
propriate inscriptions showing the capacity of 0 the cup-for use by druggists and physicians.
It will obviously perform the two functions of assisting to extract the cork from the bottle and to measure the quantity of fluidorother material taken from the bottle. If provided with the corkscrew a, it can be readily applied to any cork or stopper'of any size, and'the cork, if worn out or unfit for use, can be exchanged for another. On the other hand, the cork or corkscrew, which is attached to the cup at right angles to its vertical axis, will I serve as a convenient handle for the cup when ever the cup is used apart from the bottle. The cupmay also be used as a cover for the, bottle by being inverted andplaced over the mouth thereof. Unless the corkscrew is at right angles to the cup the latter, when filled, would have to By my invention the dose can be laid aside on a table until thepa tient has been adjusted to-receive it. The bottom of my cup serves as a base to rest it 0:1, the corkscrew not being in the way; Having now described my invention, what I claimis I g l The cup'A, combined with the corkscrew a, which projects at right angles from the side of the cup, leaving the base of the cup to form. a support for the same, substantially as herein shown anddescribed.
