Description

' (No Model.)
I. G. RAFPEL.
COMBINED POCKET CASE.
b A f 7, $275M 4 ATTOR N E Y.
I NVEN TOR I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC G. RAFFEL, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO LILLIE RAFFEL, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED POCKET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,683. dated December 27, 1887.
Application filed July 19, 1887. Serial No. 244,693. (No model.)
To (1 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC G. RAFFEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Balti more, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oombined Pocket-Cases, of which .the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a pocket-case, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a View of one side of the case, end cover opened and mirror extended. Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite side and shows the slidecomb extended. Fig. 8 is an end View showing the body of the case at the cover end, the said cover and hinge being removed. Fig. 4 is a view of the opposite end. Fig. 5 is an edge view of the case, showing the lid of the stampcompartment open and comb partly extended. Figs. 6 and 7 are sectional views showing the lid of the stamp-compartment open, and also showing the spring which acts on the lid.
I desire to construct a case to comprise a compartment with a hinged cover at one end, adapted to contain matches, a compartment with a hinged lid, adapted to contain postagestamps, a slide-mirror, and a slide-comb.
The case- A should be made of sheet metal, the two sides, I) b, composing it struck up and secured together in any well-known manner. The case has a mirror-pocket, c, which is secured on the inner surface of one of the sides, I), and is open at the end. This side of the case has a slot, 0', extending lengthwise of this pocket, and a small mirror, d, occupies the pocket 0, and is provided with a pin or lug, d, which projects through the slot 0 in the case. By means of this pin d the mirror d in the pocket may he slid out of the open end, as in Fig. 1, where one end of the mirror is shown projecting from the case. This end of the case is provided with a hinged cover, E,which covers the case-end, the mirror-pocket, and the mirror. By this construction it follows that the case may be carried in the pocket with the mirror end downward without liability of the mirror sliding out. The inner surface of the other side, I), of the case has a comb-pocket, f, and the end wall of the case at the end of the comb-pocket has aslot or opening,f, through which the comb 9 may be projected. The side b of the case has a slot, f extending lengthwise of the pocket. The comb 9 slides loosely in the pocketf and has a pin, 9, which occupies 5 the said slotf It will be seen the comb slides endwise, and may be extended out from the end of the case, as shown in Fig. 2. Vhen the comb is in this position, the case serves as a handle for the comb.
It will be seen the comb 9 slides from one end of the case and the mirror (1 from the other end. If the case be carried in the pocket with the comb end uppermost, the comb of course will not be liable to slide out, and, as already stated, the mirror at the lowermost end will be prevented from sliding out by the end cover, E, which closes over the mirror. The space between the two pockets 0 andf forms a compartment, h, which is adapted for carrying matches, and the end cover, E, also closes this compartment.
A compartment, 2', suited for postage-stamps, is formed at one end of and opens at that side, I), of the case where the mirror-pocket c is located. This compartmentz' is closed by a side lid, J, hinged atlc to the case-side b. A spring, Z, acts on the lid to hold it open, and a springsnap, in, holds it shut. The construction of this spring is" shown in Figs. 6 and 7. A wire, it, extends straight across the case below the hinge k, and a spring-wire, Z, is coiled around the said straight wire, and one end bears on the inside of the case and the other end on the 85 inside of the lid J.
It will be seen the case comprises a combpocket, f, extending the entire length of one side, a mirror-pocket, c, and a stamp-compartment, 1;, on the other side, a match-compartment, h, between the comb-pocket and mirror-pocket, and an end cover, E, closing both the mirror-pocket and inatchcompartment.
One edge of the case has a roughened surface, 0, on which the matches may be rasped when 5 it is desired to ignite them. The end cover, E, is provided on the outer corner nearest its hinge with a small steel disk, p, which is used for cutting glass.
The construction of the several parts of the 1:0
pocket-case may vary from that here shown; but the described construction is at present deemed preferable.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United projects through the said slot in the case-side,
and an end cover, E, closing the match-compartment, and also confining the mirror.
2. A pocket-case, A, comprising at one side a comb-pocket, f, extending the entire length of the side and at the other side a mirrorpoeket, c, and a stamp com 'mrtment, i, a
match'compartment, h, between the said combpocket and mirror-pocket, and an end cover, E, closing both the mirror-pocket and matchcompartment.
3. A pocket-case having two opposite sides, I) b, one side having a slot,f and an end opening, f, and on its inner surface a comb-pocket, f, a comb, g, occupying the pocket and provided with a pin, which projects through the side slot, at match-compartment, h, alongside of the comb-pocket, and a cover to close the match-compartment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC G. RAFFEL.
