CHARLES B. IRWIN,JR. INVENTOR ATTORNEY MEANS FOR ATTACHING GOGGLES TO HELMETS The present invention relates to an improved fastening means for attaching goggles to helmets.
The primary object of the invention being to provide a quick and practical way of attaching an elastic goggle support to a helmet, wherein the goggles will remain with the helmet.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for lowering the level of the elastic support in order to place the position of support more in line with the eyes of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel means for attaching the goggle support for allowing free slidable movement of the support through a closed guide.
While several objects have been set forth, other objects, uses and advantages will become more apparent as the nature of this invention is more fully disclosed by the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a side view in elevation of the goggle supporting means.
FIG. 2 is a bottom view of the same.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 3- 3 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a view in elevation of meet the fastening elements.
FIG. 4-A is an end view of the same.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view of a housing for the goggle supporting means showing means for supporting the housing.
Referring in particular to the drawings, the holding means A is adapted to be attached to a helmet 2 by hollow spring clamps 4 which is preferably made from a section of plastic tubing as shown best in FIGS. 4 and 4- A. These sections of plastic tubing are slotted longitudinally as shown at 4' in FIG. 4 and 4-A. These sections have a limited amount of elasticity to allow the slot to be opened to a point to clamp the lower edge of the helmet 2 as shown in FIG. 3. Any convenient number of these clamps may be spaced about the lower edge of the helmet, as shown in FIG. 2.
Extending through the hollow spring clamps 4 is a flexible tube 8 which extends around and under the rear lip of the helmet from one side of the helmet to the other, as shown in FIG. 2.
Extending through the tube 8 is a continuous elastic band 10, the ends of which are attached one to each side of a pairof goggles 12.
This arrangement allows for a free sliding movement through the tube 8 and makes for better and easier adjustment of the goggles to the wearers eyes.
Another advantage of the holder is that the goggles will be held on the helmet in a definite location and will further insure against the goggles being separated from the helmet. This arrangement also places the goggles in more of a horizontal line with the eyes of the wearer.
While the holder has been shown in a specific form,
it is not intended as a limitation of the invention as the scope of the invention is best defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An improved supporting means for supporting goggles to a ri id helmet comprising:
a. a plurarty of fasteners adapted to be fixedly secured to the lower edge of the helmet, having means associated therewith for securing thereto a hollow flexible tube;
b. said tube being of such length as to extend about

Claims (3)

1. An improved supporting means for supporting goggles to a rigid helmet comprising: A. A PLURALITY OF FASTENERS ADAPTED TO BE FIXEDLY SECURED TO THE LOWER EDGE OF THE HELMET, HAVING MEANS ASSOCIATED THEREWITH FOR SECURING THERETO A HOLLOW FLEXIBLE TUBE; B. SAID TUBE BEING OF SUCH LENGTH AS TO EXTEND ABOUT THE REAR OF SAID HELMET AND ALONG THE SIDES THEREOF; C. AN ELASTIC BAND ADAPTED TO FREELY SLIDE THROUGH THE SAID TUBE, HAVING ITS ENDS EXTENDED BEYOND THE END OF THE TUBE AND SECURED TO THE SIDES OF A PAIR OF GOGGLES.
2. In an improved goggle holder as claimed in claim 1 wherein the fastenings comprise a slotted section of plastic tubing.
3. In an improved goggle holder as claimed in claim 2 wherein the hollow flexible tube is slidable through the tubular plastic fastening means.
