Q. HOPFSTADT. BOX FOR SAMPLES, &c.
Patented Sept. 20, 1887.
FETERS, mm-um w. wmm n. c.
UNITE STATES OSCAR HOFFSTADT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOX FOR SAMPLES, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 370,059, dated September 20, 1887.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR HOFFSTADT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boxes for Samples and other Articles, of which the following is a full, complete, and exact specification, reference being had to the annexed drawing, which forms a part thereof.
The drawing is a perspective view of my in vcntion.
The object of my invention relates to an improved box for the transmission of samples and other goods, by means of which these articles may be sent to any person, and by the removal of a certain portion of the cover the box is thereby placed in a condition for immediate return to the consignor without the necessity of adding his address thereto.
ln'the drawing, A indicates a box. Along the entire side of the box is securely fastened for the length of one inch a cover, B, which is provided at one end with the flap 0, constructed to extend over the opening of the box and around to the other side of the box A.
A little distance below where the cover is fastened it is perforated the whole length of the side, as shown on the drawing by a. After this point the coverBis loose and separate from the box, and is constructed to extend down and around under the bottom of the box to the other side, to form the flap F. \Vhcn the box is to be used, the name of the consignee can be written on the outside of the cover B, and under the loose portion of this cover the name of the consignor can be printed or written on the side of the box. WVhen the consignee has finished with the samples or other articles which the box contains, he can tear off the loose portion of the cover B at the perforations a, return the articles to the box, and mail it without being compelled to write the name of the consignor.
The box and cover can be secured by means of a string or rubber ring placed around it.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A new and improved box, A, provided on one side with the cover B, securely fastened near the top of one side of the box, having the flap 0, extending around and over the opening of the box, and being perforated along the side near the top of the box, and the loose flap or covering F, which extends beyond the perforations down and around the bottom of the box, in the manner described, and for the purposes set forth.
