JOHN ADDISON AND WILLIAM ADDISON, OF HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
CLOTHESIVIANGLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,675, dated September 13, 1887.
Application filed January 31, 1887. Serial No. 226.105. (No model.)
To all whom it may concerm' Be it known that we, JOHN ADDrsoN and WILLIAM ADDISON, of the city of Hamilton, in the county of Ventworth, in the Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented cert-ain ,new and useful Improvements in Olothes-ll/Iangles, of which the following is a specication.
Our invention relates to wooden mangles; and our improvements consist in the manner in which the rollers are fixed in the frame and the compression brought on them by screwbolts, and the device for fixing the mangle up against the wall, closing it up, and holding it inacompact space when not in use,and readily letting it out and having it ready for use, as hereinafter described and claimed'.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of the mangle. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing it closed up against the wall when not in use. Fig. 3 is also aside view of the mangle, showing it opened out from the wall and ready for use.
K is a board or other Xed support permanently secured to the wall and provided with the eyes x at the top and the brackets m near the bottom. Themangle-frame consists of the side bars, E and F, each provided with suit able cross-braces and pivoted together by the hinges P at the bottom. The sidebars, F, are pivoted to the brackets m by the pins m, near their lower ends, and the said bars have the levers L pivoted to them, each provided with a long and a short end furnished, respectively, with the hooks n and o,which engage with the said eyes-x from above and below, as shown in the drawings, and thereby hold the side bars, F, parallel with the Wall, or at an angle with the same, with the lower ends of the side bars, F, resting against it.
A are the manglerollers secured upon the shafts c, journaled in side bars, E and F,which are strengthed by the addition of pieces Wat t-he top to better support the said shafts.
One of the shafts is provided with the handle D, which has a split end, d, and is secured to the shaft by the bolt d. The two rollers are caused to revolve simultaneously by the gear-wheels B,secured to them by dowelpins b, or otherwise caused to turn with the shafts.
The pressure of the rollers is regulated by the thumb-nuts J, Which Work upon the screwed ends of the bolts g, which are provided with square heads gletinto the side lars,F,at the back, and with square washers g2, let into the side bars,E,at the front, for the said thumb nuts to bear against.
T is a table pivotally connected to the side bars, E, at the top by the hinges t, so that it may be folded over the top of the rollers when the mangle is not in use; and y are supporting-levers pivoted to the said table at one end and sliding in the guides V when the table is turned onits hinges. When thetableisturned, as shown in Fig. 3, these levers rest upon the handle-shaft c and the top part of the said guides, and thereby support the table.
W'hat We claim 'isl. The combination ofa support secured to a wall, a mangle-frame pivotally connected to the lower part of the said support, and the lever L, provided with ends of unequal length provided with hooks o and n, pivoted to the mangle-frame and engaging with the upper part of the said support, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a inangle-frame provided with side bars, E and F, pivotally connected at theirlower ends, ofthe table T, pivoted to side bars, E, the guides V projecting from side bars, F, the rollers journaled upon shafts in the upper part of the frame, and the supportinglevers i pivoted to the table, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
