. M ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY KNIOKMAN, OF EAST NEW YORK, N. Y.
EAR-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,179, dated May 31,1887.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY KNIOKMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at East New York, in the county of Kings and State 7 5 of New York, have invented new and useful- Improvementsin Ear-Rings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in ear-rings, as set forth in the following specifition and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a detail view of a bow and suspendingarm. Fig. 2 is a seetionin the plane :0, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a how I 5 and a suspending-arm having a loop.
Similar lettersindicate corresponding parts. In the drawings, the letter A indicates a bow, and B a suspending or suspension-arm. By making the bow and suspendingarm of suspending-arm B a suitable ornament, pendant, or device, D, may be secured. The device D may be fixed to the arm B by solder or other suitable means, or the arm B may be provided with a loop, 0, and the device D may be suspended from or secured to the loop 0.
A catch, E, having a hooked outer end, is provided for engaging the free end or arm of the bow A. As seen in Fig.2, the catch E is perforated, so that said catch can be readily slipped onto or off the bow A, a shoulder, F, at the inner end of said catch E, engaging apart ofthe suspending-arm near its fixed end, and thereby holding the catch E steady. By 3 5 making the catch E movable said catch can be one piece a firm structure is obtained. To the:
readily removed it injured or broken. If movable, said catch can also be readily placed at any desired point along the bow, and by loosely passing the catch on the suspensionarm B it is thereby pivoted, sothatits hooked end can be swung into and out of engagement with the bow.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A bow, A, having a suspending-arm, B, 5 in combination with a swinging catch, E, slidable vertically and pivoted on the suspension-arm, substantially as described.
2. A bow, A, having a suspension-arm, B, in combination with a catch, E, pivoted to swing on the suspension-arm and having a hooked outer end to engage the bow, and a shoulder, F, at its other end to engage a part of the suspensioir arm, substantially as described.
3. A bow, A, formed integral with a sus pension-arm, B, in combination with a hooked catch, E,vertical]y movable on the suspensionarm and pivoted thereupon to swing to engage the bow, and provided at its inner end with the shoulders F, to engage a part of the suspension-arm, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY KNICKMAN. [L. 8.]
