GEORGE HARTJE, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 105,201, (lated July 12, 187 0.
COMBINED HINGE AND RING- FOR LOCKETS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HARTJE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Hinge and Ring for Lockets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the aecompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication,in which- Figure 1 is a side View of a locket to which my improvedvdevice has been attached.
Figure 2 is a detail view of the inner side of one of the parts of the same.
Similar letters of 'reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish au improved combinedv hinge and ring for lockets, which shall be simple in construction, neat in appearance, strong and durable, and-which will allow raised work to be attached to the locket without interfering with the proper operation of the hinge; and
It consists in the combined hinge and ring, constructed as hereinafter more fully described, in combination with the parts of the locket.
A and B are the parts of the loeket about the construction of which there is nothing new.
C is a. small metal loop, the ends of which are securely soldered to one of the parts, as B, of the locket and the bow or'middle part of which serves as a ring forthe attachment ot' the chain, cord, or other article `from which the locket is suspended.
The arms of the loop C, near their ends, are perforated to receive the pivoting pin D, which also passes throughthe eye E, which forms the other part of the hinge, and is placed between thearms of the loop C, and is securely soldered to the other part, as Aot' the locket.
The eye E I prefer to form by ceiling a fine wire around a wire and soldering the coils to each other and to the other part A of the locket. The eye E may be otherwise made if desired.
By this construction the parts of the locket are strongly and neatly hinged to each other, and in such a way that raised work may be attached to the locket without interfering with the proper operation of the hinge.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentlhe combined hinge and ring C D E, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, in combination with the parts A B of a locket, as and for the purposes set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 24th day of May, 1870.
GEORGE HARTJE.
