WASHING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 364.000, dated May 31, 1887. Application tiled February 14, 1887. Serial No, 227,549. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that we, J onn B. FAUNTLEROY and CHESTER S. OsnoRN, both of De Kalb, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved \Vashing- Machine, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in whichtion, with the dasher, of a perforated plat-form supported above the bottom of the tub, for holding the clothes in position to allow the water to freely pass through them.
Our improved washer is adapted to be used in the ordinary tub, A. The platform B, consisting of a ring, a, and a wire-cloth disk, I), secured to the ring, is supported a short distance above the bottom of the tub by legs 0.
The dasher, with which the clothes are manipulated, consists of an inverted flaring cup,
0, provided with a ferrule, D, for receiving the handle E, and divided diametrically by a hollow partition, F, which forms an air-pas sage communicating between the lower part of the cup 0 and the space above the cup through apertures d. The ferrule D is attached to the center of the cup, and is strengthened by diagonal braces e, connected with the ferrule and with the top of the cup 0, near the edge thereof.
The clothes to be'washed are placed upon the platform B, and the Water is forced through the clothes and through the wire cloth disk I) of the platform by raising and depressing the inverted cup 0 by means of the handle E.
By supporting the clothes a short distance above the bottom'of the tub the water is readily forced through them.
Having thus fully described our invention,
we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a washing'machine, the inverted cup 0, provided with the hollow transverse partition F, the ferrule I), braces c, and the handle E, substantially as described.
