Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SALEM A. WHEELOCK, OFCHARLTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS,
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 36,379, dated September 2, 1862.
To all whom it 'may concern,.-
Be it known that I, SALEM A. WHEELooK, of Charlton, county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Mode of Operating Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the saine, due reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which shows a side View of myinvention with churn attached.
A is a base supporti ng theseat B and frame C.
D is a shaft having bearings in frame C, a gear-Wheel. E, and cranks G and G on its ends.
F is a iiy-Wheel with gear attached, sup'- ported by stud in frame C, which extends up for that purpose,as shown by the dotted lines.
I is a lever hung at H and vat I connecting to the dasher of the churn J, and has a con necting-rod, K, togive it motion from a crankpin in wheel F. On eachside, at L, is asupport or rest firmly secured to the frame or base for the operator to brace the feet against.
To operate the machine, the person sits on the seat B with the feet on the rests L and takes a crank of D in each hand, which gives who is thus enabled to give the most power. y
I am aware that double cranks have been used for various purposes and wheels and levers ofvarious forms applied to churns. Therefore I do not claim the particular forrn of any of the parts separately; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The above described mode of operating churns when constructed and.l operated in the manner and for the purposes as above set forth and described.
In testimony WhereofI have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
SALEM A. WHEELOCK.
Witnesses:
JAS. G. ARNOLD, GEO. SWAN.
