.gam/6 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
N. B. COOPER, OF GRATIS, OHIO.
CHURN-DASHER.
Specification of Letters Patent No.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, N. B. COOPER, of Gratis, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Churn-Dashers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon and made to form a part of this description.
My invention relates to certain improvements in churn dashers, described, specified and represented as follows:
In reference to the accompanying drawings Figure l is a side elevation of the churn dasher, showing its arrangement within the shell of a churn. Fig. 2 is an end view of the dasher.
(A) represents the shell of a churn.
(B) is the dasher frame, constructed in such manner that it may easily be inserted within or withdrawn from the shell (A) in which it is held by means of the vertical ways m,
(Z) o) are bars, pivoted to the frame (B) at and provided with agitators (o) shown clearly in Fig. 2. Attached to the bars (b) are hinged folding levers (d) the upper ends of which are pivoted to the dash rod (e) at- (e). Secured to the levers (d) are transverse agitators The dash rod (e) passes through the top of the frame (B) so that all the working parts of the dasher may be removed from, or inserted within the shell (A), together with the 26,020, dated November 8, 1859.
frame (B) gearing may be applied to the rod (c) so that the dasher may be operated by means of a crank, and the agitators being forced through the cream by means of levers renders the dasher capable of being operated with very little power', at the same time the operation of churning will be performed in the most rapid and eficient manner.
It will be readily seen by reference to Fig. 2 that the operation of the levers and agitators is of such a character as to force the cream rapidly from one side of the churn to the other, and that such currents must be forcibly interrupted by the agitators upon either side, thereby securing a most desirable and rapid operation of churning, and gathering the butter from cream.
I do not claim the use of jointed levers in the construction of churn dashers, nor the attachment of agitators thereto, as these devices are well known, but
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The arrangement of the arms d, (Z, on the two pivots Z1', one on each side of the upright B, when the upright B is made removable, by means of the ways m, substantially as set' forth.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand.
N. B. COOPER.
