Description
0. WIPATTON Churn Power and Table.
No. 222,726. Patented Dec; 16, I879.
WITNESSES INVENTDB UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. PATTON, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN POWERS AND TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,726, dated December 16, 1879 application filed November 1, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES W. PATTON, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churn Powers and Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed. drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is arepresentation of a plan of my churn, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation View of the same, partly in section.
My present invention relates to a combined churn power and table; and it consists in certain improvements in the organization of the various parts with a view of rendering the same in a high degree effective, convenient, and especially adapted to the requirements ot'service, all as fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, A designates the tablelegs, which are secured to a frame, B 5 and U, the table-top, which is secured upon the said frame by means of a hook and eye, D, and hooks E E, arranged substantially as shown, so that by disengaging the hook from the eye the top may be readily withdrawn from the remaining hooks E and removed from the frame upon which it has been secured. This frame is bent so as to form a segment of a circle, the ends of the same being connected by a bar or slat, c, which carries the mechanism for actuating the churuda-sher.
The table-top is recessed, as at 0, so as to aii'ord a space between itself and the frame for the crank-wheel which actuates the dashershaft, this arrangement being employed so as to bring the churn under the table, and hence out of the way.
Upon the removable table-top is secured a standard, F, which is provided withguides G for the reciprocating dasher-shaft H. This dasher-shaft is provided at its lower end with a dasher, I, which is composed of vane-shaped pieces 13, formed with pins adapted to besecured into holes in the shaft, the said vanes being set at angles, as shown. I
K designates the balance and crank wheel for operating the dasher-shaft. and L a detachable pitman, which connects the two together, the said pitman being fitted at one end into one of a series of holes formed in the dashershaft, and at its remaining end into one of a series of holes formed in a spoke of the crankwheel. Theaxis of this wheel is journaled in a casing, M, secured upon the bar 0, and is provided with a gear-wheel, N, which engages with the driving-gear wheel 0. This drivingwheel is formed with suitable gear-teeth for such purpose, and provided with a crank-handle, P, for operating the same.
As herein shown, the churn Q, which Ihave designated by dotted lines, will, when placed in position for use, be under the table and out of the way. By partially removing the table top from its supporting-frame, the pitman can be readily disengaged from the dashcr-shaft, or from both the shaft and the wheel, and then, by raising the table-top, the shaft may be en tirely freed from the guides of standard I After this the churn can be readily taken out from under the table, and either emptied or filled, as the case may be, and then the several partsreconnected for purposes of churning.
What I claim is- In a combined table and churn power, the table formed with a detachable top, and a standard which is arra-nged'upon said top and provided with guides for the dasher-shaft, in combination with thedasher, operating mechanism, and a churn arranged between the table-legs in position for churning, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. PATTON.
