DARRELL G. BUTZ YARN wnvnsn SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with my invention I provide a frame supporting a horizontally disposed hollow compartment accessible from an opening either at the top or front thereof. The frame also supports means disposed above the compartment for receiving and supplying yarn. The means comprises two parallel vertical like discs interconnected by a horizontal shaft interconnected to and extending between the centers of the discs. A handcrank is secured to an extension of the shaft which passes through one of the discs whereby the discs and shaft can be rotated in either direction about the horizontal axis of the shaft. Four parallel horizontally elongated rods extend between the discs, in such manner that the shaft extends parallel thereto and midway therebetween. In use, one end of a length of yarn is secured to the shaft and when the crank is turned, the yarn will be wound about the rods for subsequent unwinding as desired.
Yarn can be easily fed to the work without tangle. The yarn is held off the ground. Needles and/or work can be stored in the compartment as desired. My invention is light in weight and readily portable. It has an attractive appearance.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. I is a perspective view of one form of my invention;
FIG. 2 is a front view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a rear view thereof;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a modification of the invention of FIG. II; and
FIG. 5 is a front view of the apparatus of FIG. 4.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-5, two vertical parallel flat membars having the shape of an inverted Y with a centered or offset vertical leg MIA are interconnected at their bottom portions by two parallel horizontally elongated boards 12 lying in vertical planes and extending transversely between the members. A flat horizontal member M lying in a horizontal plate is disposed underneath boards 12 to form a compartment therewith for receiving needles and/or work.
As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the compartment is accessible from the top. As shown in FIGS. 1-3, one board 112A can be wider and have a more elevated top edge with a member 16 extending parallel to member 14 and secured to board 12A whereby a vertical opening to the compartment is formed between the other board 12 and member I6 as shown at I8.
As shown in all of the figures, an elongated horizontal shaft 20 extends between the top portions of members and is rotatable about its axis by means of manually operable crank 22 secured to one end thereof.
Two oppositely disposed vertical parallel circular discs 24 are each secured at its center to the shaft. Four horizontally elongated rods 26 equidistantly disposed from each other and from shaft 20 extend between and are secured to the discs and are parallel to the shaft.
Yarn 28 can then be wound about the rods 26 or unwound therefrom in the manner previously described.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is claimed as new l. A yarn winder comprising in combination a pair of vertical, parallel spaced-apart legs, rotatable horizontal shaft supported through the upper ends of said. legs, a handcrank on one end of said shaft, a reel affixed on said shaft, said reel consisting of a pair of spaced-apart circular discs with a cylindrical barrel secured therebetween that consists of four parallel rods spaced around said shaft; and a compartment for receiving needles and work being formed between said legs, said compartment being comprised by horizontal bottom and top walls, a low sidewall and opposite high sidewall between said legs, said low sidewall having an access opening to said compartment formed between an upper edge thereof and a side edge of said top wall.

Claims (1)
