Description

Nov. 15, 1966 P. H. KING 3,
YYYYYYYY ER Filed July 24, 1964 United States Patent 3,285,532 YARN HOLDER Paul H. King, 2985 S. Sherman, Englewood, Colo. Filed July 24, 1964, Ser. No. 384,983 6 Claims. (Cl. 242-139) This invention relates to yarn apparatus and more particularly to an apparatus for dispensing yarn.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a yarn holder which will accommodate a plurality of spools of yarn and will have spaced apart cross bar members with eyelets through which to feed the yarn.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a yarn holder which will have an upper bar member having eye means to receive a leader of yarn from all of the spools simultaneously.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a yarn holder which will uniformly and consistently dispense yarn for use on knitting machines in the home and the like.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a yarn holder which will have an adaptor means which will facilitate the use of balls of yarn, providing maximum versatility.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a yarn holder bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of the present invention shown the yarn in phantom lines;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a side view showing a yarn ball adaptor for use with the invention.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a yarn holder made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a base 12 of rectangular configuration having a plurality of rectangular blocks 14 fixedly secured beneath it at each corner to provide support means for base 12. An elongated, circular dowel 16 is fixedly secured to the center of base 12 for a purpose which hereinafter will be described. A plurality of conical members 18 are radially spaced apart from dowel 16 to provide a means for positioning and receiving a spool of yarn 20. A plurality of bars 22 of tapered configuration are radially spaced apart near the center of dowel 16 and are provided with an eye 24 on the end which freely and slidably receives yarn 26. An upper horizontal bar 28 of tapered configuration is provided with an eye 30 which receives yarn 26 from each of the spools of yarn 20 received upon the conical member 18 secured to base 12.
In use, yarn 26 being dispensed from spools of yarn 20 received by conical members 18 is freely received through eyelets 24 and eye 30, whereupon it may be fed to a knitting machine or the like.
In FIGURE 3, a modified structure in the form of an adaptor cup 32 is shown to include a neck 34 having a tapered opening 35 which freely and slidably receives a conical member 18. Cup 32 receives a ball-shaped configuration of yarn 36.
In use, cup 32 is placed so that conical member 18 is received within opening 35 of neck 34 to support cup 32 which will hold yarn 36 to be dispensed in the same manner as mentioned heretofore for the main embodiment of the present invention.

It shall be noted that any number of conical members 18 may be secured to base 12 to provide for the use of a plurality of spools of yarn 20 which may be of different colors.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Patent of the United States is:
1. A yarn holder comprising, in combination, a base of rectangular configuration, a plurality of rectangular blocks carried by said base for providing support means to said base, a plurality of radially spaced apart conical members carried by said base for providing means for receiving tapered spools of yarn, a vertical dowel member carried by said base, a plurality of radially spaced apart bars of tapered configuration affixed to said dowel member, an eye member secured to the outermost extremity of each of said bars, said eye member adapted to receive said yarn from said tapered spool and space it apart from said dowel member, an upper tapered configurated bar affixed to the top portion of said dowel member capable of providing means for dispensing a plurality of leaders of yarn from said spools of yarn, and a cup adaptor providing means for supporting a ball of yarn upon said conical members of said holder.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein said rectangular blocks are fixedly secured beneath the corners of said rectangular base and provide support means for said base above a surface.
3. The combination according to claim 2 wherein the plurality of conical members are secured at their larger diameters to said base and the central axis of said conical members is perpendicular to said base and said conical members freely and rotatably receive spools of yarn of conical configuration.
4. The combination according to claim 3 wherein the leaders of yarn from said spools of yarn received upon said conical members are freely and slidably received through eye members secured within the ends of said bars which are radially spaced apart from and secured to said dowel.
5. The combination according to claim 4 wherein said dowel member is elongated in configuration and is circular in cross section and is secured to the center of the upper surface of said base and the axis of said radially spaced apart arms are parallel to said base.
6. The combination according to claim 5 wherein said yarn is freely received through said eye members of said radially spaced apart bars and each of said leaders of yarn from each of said spools upon said conical members of said device are freely and slidably received within an eye secured to an upper bar member secured to the upper extremity of said dowel and said upper bar is parallel to said base and feeds said yarn to said central eye on the end of said bar whereupon it may be used upon the knitting machine or the like.
