WINDING AND DRYING REEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2'7, 1909.
Application filed. September 25, 1907. Serial No. 394,562.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANHOPE M. MoMUR- great an extent as possible and the object of this invention is to provide a lightly built reel open on all sides and on which the material to be dried is wound as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved reel. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
The prime object of this reel is to provide a device of simple and light construction upon which the cord or line is wound and which is capable of separation so that it can be packed in a small amount of space. The reel is made up of two rings 5 and 6 which are united by rods 7 into which the spokes 8 are secured. The, hub 9 also carries the spokes and is secured to a shaft 10 which latter is loosely journal-ed in a boX 11 at the upper end of a standard 12. The'shaft at its outer end has secured to it a handle 13 and the standard 12 fits in a socket in the base 14 to which it is secured by a pin and is shown as being made up of separable cross pieces and may have holes for screws or pegs so that it may be supported from a wall or secured to a table.
While the reel here shown is constructed of wood or similar material it is obvious that it may be made up of light metal so as to offer more air space for any line which may be Wound or dried on same at the same time affording greater lightness of construction which not only affords better opportunities to effect the drying but is more convenient in transporting where there is less weight.
' In case it is desired to ship or transport the reel it is only necessary to remove the standard 12 from the base and the shaft 10 from. the standard and reel and the device may then be packed Within a small inclosure.
In setting up the reel for use the parts are quickly put together and the exposure of the line if Wet upon the reel will effect its drying in a very short time.
' WhatI claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A Winding and drying reel of the class described comprising a base formed from separable cross pieces, each of said pieces having an opening formed therein intermediate of its ends registering With each other when said pieces are put together, a vertically disposed standard removably mounted at its lower end in said openings, a shaft journaled in the standard, a hub removably mounted upon the shaft, spokes carried by the hub, cross bars carried by the spokes, spaced rings secured to the cross bars, said hub being disposed at one side of said standard, and a removable crank handle carried by the shaft and disposed at the other side of the standard adapted to prevent longitudinal movement of the shaft.
