DINNER-BUCKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,948, dated May 17, 1887. Application filed January 19, 1887. Serial No. 224,156. (No model.)

Be it known that I, BRENTON K. GALBRETII, a citizen oftheUnitcd States,residing at Salem, in the county of Golumbianaand State ofOhio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Dinner-Buckets; and I dohcreby declare that the following is afnll, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the dinner-bucket closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the dinner-bucket open. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a slay-wire.

The present invention has relation to dinner buckets; and its nature consists in the different parts and combination of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the draw ings.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the cover or lid, which is hinged to the side piece, B. To the cover or lid A is attached the handle a, said handle being substantially of the form shown in the drawings, and extends upward to such a distance that when the cover or lid is folded or turned back, as shown in Fig. 2, said cover or lid will be held in ahorizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2.

The bottom 0, the side piece, B, and the end piece, D, are preferably formed of a single piece of sheet metal or other suitable material. The side piece, B, and the end piece, 1), are each provided with the strips 1) I). Said strips may be continnations of the sheet from which the bottom 0, the side piece, 13, and end D are formed, and bent as shown in Fig. 2 and are for the purpose hereinafter describec To the bottom O are hinged the end piece, E, and the side piece, G, and to the piece G is hinged the leaf F, said parts being located and arranged substantially as shown in the drawlugs.

The bottom 0, end piece, E, leaf F, and side piece, G, are each provided with a button or knob, H, which are for the purpose of attaching the napkin I, said napkin being of such a size as to cover the different parts when they are unfolded, as shown in Fig. 2.

In the drawings the napkin is shown broken away, so as to show the parts which it is designed to cover. To the end D and the side piece, G, and to the end E and side B, are attached the stay wires or rods 0, for the purpose of holding the parts to which they are attached in a horizontal position. The tops or upper ends of the stay wires or rods are pro vided with the bent or curved portion (1, and are for the purpose of engaging the strips 1) b when the parts are unfolded.

To the side piece, G, is attached the staple J, which extends up through the aperture 6 when the bucket is folded, as shown in Fig. 1, and is for the purpose of receiving one end of the sliding bar K, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby loekin g the cover orlid Ain theposition slfown in Fig. 1. For the purpose of preventing the sliding bar K from becoming detached from the staple J, the shoulders f are provided, which may be located substantially as shown in said Fig. 1, and are so arranged that when the handle g is placed on the lid, as shown, it will come in front of said shoulders f, thereby preventing said sliding bar from becoming detached. \Vhen it is desired to detach the sliding bar K- from the staple J', the handle 9 is turned to a perpendicular position, when it can be detached.

Vhen itis desired to fold the bucket proper, the hinged end piece, E, is turned in a perpendicular position, so that the rear edge will come against one of the strips I), and the leaf F is folded in a perpendicular position and the side piece, G, turned to a perpendicular position, thereby forming a rectangular box, when the lid is closed, as shown in Fig. 1, the rim of said lid coming down over the top or upper edges of the ends and sides of the bucket proper.

For the purpose of preventing the leaf F from striking the button or knob H, said leaf is cut away, as at Z, Fig. 2. For the purpose of holding the leaf F in line with the end E, the projection L may be located substantially as shown in the drawings. To the side piece,

B, may be attached the links L, which are for the purpose of holdinga knife and fork or other desired articles.

It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to unfold the bucketproper and provide a neat table.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with the bottom 0, fixed 5 side B, and fixed end D, of the side G and end E, each hinged to the bottom,theleaf F,hinged to one end of the hinged side, and the cover A, hinged to the fixed side, substantially as described. v

2. The combination, with the bottom 0 and. the fixed side B and fixed end D, each provided on one edge with a vertical strip, 1), of the side G and end E, each hinged to the bottom, and the stays c a, connecting the strips 1) b with the hinged side and end, substantially as described.

' 3. The combination, with the bottom 0 and the hinged side G. hinged end E, and hinged leaf F, all adapted to be brought into a hori- 20 zontal plane, of the buttons H, attached to said parts for engaging button-holes in a napkin, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with the bottom 0, the hinged side G, and the hinged end E, having a projection, L, of the leaf F, hinged to one end 25 of the side G, andadapted to rest horizontally on said projection L,subst-antially as described.

5. The combination of the bottom O,the fixed side B, the fixed end D, the side G, and end E, hinged to the bottom, the hinged leaf F, the 0 hinged cover or lid A, fitting over the sides and ends, and a fastening for said lid, substantially as described.
