APPARATUS FOR LAUNCHING TORPEDOiES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,526, dated April 19,1887.
Application filed February 4. 1887. Serial No. 226,546.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMIL KASELOWSKY, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Launching Attachments for Torpedo- Tubes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment for the temporary inclosing case or tube of nautical torpedoes, whereby the torpedo may be guided in its exit from the said case or tube in being launched until it has entirely left the same to take the water.
The invention consists in a bar or beam that may be extended outward from the torpedo case or tube and provided in its bottom side with a suitable guide that substantially conforms to a guide stud or projection on the outer surface of the torpedo, so that as the torpedo leaves the tube or case the projection thereon will enter the slot in the guide-bar, and the torpedo thus be supported and guided until it has entirely emerged from its tube, when it will glide into the water, as will be hereinafter more particularlydescribed, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation showing the torpedo with its inclosingcase and my improvement in full lines, and also showing in dotted lines the torpedo just as it has completely emerged from the'tube. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inclosing-tube and its guidebar. Fig. 3 is an enlarged crosssection.
As the p referred arrangement and construction of my invention, I have shown the torpedo-holding case or tube A as constructed with a box, chamber, or compartment, a, on the top thereof. Although I have shown the said slot and stud of T shape, it will be understood that otherformsmightbeemployed. Forinstance, the stud may have a rounded head and the slot be of a form to correspond.

\Vhen the bar (Z is completely within the case, the same slide or cover that closes the torpedo proper will also close the front end of the box or compartment a.
It will be seen that by the use of the abovedescribed invention the torpedo will be safely and easily guided in its exit from the tube until it has completely emerged from the same to take the water.
WVith the exception of being provided with the stud p, the torpedo may be of any ordinary or approved construction.
The bar d, it is evident, may be operated by means other than a rack and pinion, as stated.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. A torpedo case or tube provided with a guide bar adjustable relatively to said tube and slotted in its bottom side, in combination with a torpedo having a guide stud or projection adapted to said slot, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a torpedo tube, a bar adjustablelongitudinally of said tube and formed throughout its length with a slot T- shaped in cross-section,-substantially asshown and described.
3. The combinatiomwith a torpedo-tube and a longitudinally-adjustable bar thereon, the latter having a longitudinal guide-slot of substantially T shape in cross-section, of a torpedo having a headed guide-stud adapted to said slot, substantially as shown and described.
