JOHN W. PALMER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO DAVID IV. GLASS,
' r OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
.PERFUME-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,902, dated April 12, 1887.
Application filed January 26.1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Perfume- Receptacles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention consists of a perforated case or tube loade'd or packed with powdered perfume or medicine, the scentof which is disseminated through the perforations.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood, I have illustrated it in the annexed drawings, and will proceed to describe it as applied to a pencil.
Figure 1 represents an elevation ofa pencil embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents an axial section of the same.-
The pencil A carries the ordinary metallic tube B, with a rubber tip, C. For my purposes the tube is preferably made alittle-longer than usual, to form a chamber, B, between the rubber tip and the end of the pencil, for the reception of the powdered perfume or medi-' cine. The part of the tube forming chamber B is perforated, having numerous small holes or slits, b, and the perfume or medicine is packed rather solidly in it, in order that it may form a compact mass, to prevent sifting through the holes or slits. The chamber is closed at Serial No. 189,811. (No model.)
one end by the rubber tip, and "at the other end by a wad or washer, I), forced into it after loading. Obviously, the perforated chamber may be closed at the ends in any manner desired. A perforated tube thus loaded can be applied to pen-holders as well as to pencils.
My invention isnotlimited, primarily, to its application to pencils or pen-holders.
I claim as my invention-- 1. Atube having an open chamber and a closed chamber, the said closed chamber being filled with firmly-packed powdered perfume, and having its sides finely perforated, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a pencil, of atube having an open chamber and a closed chamber,
the said closed chamber being filled with a firmly-packed powdered perfume, and having its sides finely perforated, substantially as described. I
3. A tube having a closed chamber and an open chamber, one end of said closed chamber being closed by an adjustable and removable closing device, the said closed chamber being filled with firmly-packed powdered perfume, and having its sides finely perforated, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
JOHN \V. PALMER.
