UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
FRANZSTOHR, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
COLLAPSIBLE TUBE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,432, dated March 13, 1900. Application filed Juno 9, 1899. Serial No. 720i000- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ STOHR, apothecary, a subject of the Emperor of Austriallungary, residing at II Raimundgasse 6, Vi-
injuriously affected by contact with a lead compound-such as painters colors, various pomades, &c-.or those which owing to their completely-neutral nature do not absorb lead at all, such as Vaseline. As, however, such tubes are extremely convenient for the sale, use,-and transport of various articles, it seems very desirable to form them of such material and shape that they can be used also for substances which would be rendered unfit for use if they contained lead, and this is the object of my present invention.
The accompanying drawing shows a perspective view of the tube of my invention. I
According to my invention the tubes are made of gelatin, which substance possesses the requisite toughness and flexibility for this application, and in relation to the most part of medicines and other like substances reacts entirely neutral.
My tubes are formed of gelatin in the shape of a flask A,with a neck B, and this neck, after the tube is filled, is closed by means of the gelatin plate 0, and this requires simply to be perforated when it is desired to empty the tube, but no capsule is placed upon the neck. A clip E, fixed upon the neck and of any convenient construction, such as is shown, for instance, in the drawing, will serve for the closing of the tube after a portion of its contents has been removed.
In addition to the great lightness and convenience of the tubes of my invention they are also advantageous owing to their cheapness.
I claim- 7 1. As a new article of manufacture, a flask composed of gelatin havinga neck and a gelatin disk closing the end of the neck, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, aflask composed of gelatin having a neck and a gelatin disk applied to the neck and a separable closing means for compressing the neck below the disk-closure,- substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANZ STOHR.
