Abstract
Induction means for use in combination with a positive displacement pump, the pump having a body with wall means and cover means defining a pumping chamber, a reciprocating piston disposed in a cylinder communicating with the chamber, a source of fluid under pressure being coupled to said pump through a supply conduit, inlet and outlet orifices communicating with said chamber and having inlet and outlet valves respectively for intermittent isolation of the chamber during the pumping strokes, the induction means being arranged in communication with the pumping chamber and being adapted to induce fluid flow into the pumping chamber for discharge through the positive displacement pump structure, the induction means including induction inlet means for coupling the chamber to a supply reservoir and communicating with said pumping chamber through a certain induction orifice, and an adjustable control means for controlling the flow of fluid from the supply reservoir to the induction orifice, and baffle means formed in the chamber and partially isolating the pumping cylinder and the induction orifice from the inlet orifice, the baffle means substantially impeding the flow of fluid from the source of fluid under pressure to the pumping cylinder so that upon each suction stroke of the piston, the pressure of the pumping chamber falls to a level below atmospheric.

2. control valve means for controlling the flow of fluid from said supply reservoir to said induction orifice; b. baffle means formed in said chamber and partially isolating said cylinder and said induction orifice from said inlet orifice, said baffle means substantially impeding the flow of fluid from said source of fluid under pressure to said cylinder so that upon each suction stroke of said piston, the pressure of said pumping chamber falls to a level below atmospheric.
2. The combination as defined in claim 1 being particularly characterized in that said baffle means comprises a pair of opposed abutments arranged in spaced apart relationship so as to define a flow channel therebetween.
2. control valve means for controlling the flow of fluid from said supply reservoir to said induction orifice; b. baffle means formed along the inwardly directed surface of said cover means and being integral therewith, and partially isolating said cylinder and said induction orifice from said inlet orifice, said baffle means substantially impeding the flow of fluid from said source of fluid under pressure to said cylinder so that upon each suction stroke of said piston, the pressure of said pumping chamber falls to a level below atmospheric.
3. In combination with a positive displacement pump having a body with wall means and cover means defining a pumping chamber, a reciprocating piston disposed in a cylinder communicating with said chamber, a source of fluid under substantial line pressure being coupled to said pump through a supply conduit, inlet and outlet orifices communicating with said chamber and having inlet and outlet valve means respectively for intermittent isolation of said chamber from a supply conduit and a discharge conduit respectively; a. induction means communicating with said pumping chamber for inducing fluid flow into said pumping chamber for discharge through said discharge conduit and including:
4. The combination as defined in claim 1 being particularly characterized in that said baffle means comprises a pair of opposed abutments arranged in spaced apart relationship so as to define a flow channel therebetween.
5. The combination as set forth in claim 1 being particularly characterized in that the free flow area of said baffle means is less than the free flow area available in said inlet valve.
6. The combiNation as defined in claim 3 being particularly characterized in that said opposed abutments have generally arcuately rounded confronting surfaces forming a narrowed channel therebetween.
7. The combination as defined in claim 1 being particularly characterized in that said induction means includes: a. check valve means disposed in a second orifice and in communication with said first orifice and arranged to open upon the suction stroke and close upon the pressure stroke of said reciprocating piston; and b. injection chamber means disposed between said check valve means and said pumping chamber and having a third orifice in direct communication with said pressure chamber and having baffle means interposed between said third orifice and said injection chamber for substantially isolating said injection chamber means from said pumping chamber.
