To all whom, it concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD W. GRIFFITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the Statev of Maryland, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Burial-Cases; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of my improved buriatcase. Fig. 2 is a like view, the cover being removed. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4t is a central vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 5 is a cross-section taken on line w x of Fig. l. Fig. 6 is a plan of the bottom sections ot' the case.

The case is usually constructed of artificial stone and cement or other similar material which can be molded, and the main parts are made in sections. The bottom part, on which are placed the side and end pieces of the case, is preferably made in two sections, (designated A and A',) each of which is formed with slots or lengt-hened apertures a, to receive thelower ends of metallic straps or binders, as herein- Bolt-holes c are provided along the edges of the bottom sections for securing them to the side and end pieces.

Each of the sides of the case is preferably constructed in three sections, being a central section, B, and two sections, B', each adjoining section B. The vertical edges of the-section B and the edges of the sections B', adjoining it have grooves b formedin them, and when the sections are in place the grooves of the central section, B, are in line with the grooves of the adjoining sections B', as shown, thus forming passages oropenings in which are inserted the binders or straps b'. These binders extend downward into the apertures a in the bottom sections, and are secured therein by bolts or pins e. The upper ends of the binders are bent inward at right angles to form the hooks d to retain the bars f, which are placed across the case at the top before the top sections are applied, the ends of said bars resting on the upper edges of the sides and extending under the hooks or bent ends d of the binders. The upper edges of the side pieces are recessed or sunken atg, to allow the placing of barsf with their ends under hooks d, which are also allowed to sink slightly, so that the cover may set closely on the casing.

At each joint of sections D and D' and on the center line of the cover is formed a bolt-hole, o, and a countersink, and a key-bolt is driven through each bolt-ho1e and through a central hole in a cross-bar, f, below, the head of the bolt resting in the countersink. rIhe key-bolts, expanding after being driven home, eft'ectually secure the coversections to the cross-barsf.

After the parts of the case are secured to gether, as described,the heads of bolts are covered with cement, and any openings that may be found are filled with the same, and a close tight case is thus formed,
