COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,313, dated December 14,1886.
Application filed June 24, 1886.

The object of my invention is to provide a combination tool comprising pipe-tongs for pipe of different sizes, ahammer, screwdriver, tack-claw, wire-cutter, a measure, pliers, sawhandle, a handle for a brad-awl or gimlet, and a punch.
My invention consists of two jaws offset and pivoted together, provided with lever-handles, and with serrated semicircular notches in the jaws and in the handles,and having a hammeri'ace on oneside of one of the jaws, and in other details of construction, as hereinafter more fully described.
The jaws A B are provided with handles 0 D,which are offset and pivoted together upon a bolt, a. The jaws A B are provided with serrated semicircular notches b b c c, for receiving pipe to be clamped and turned by the jaws, and in the adjoining faces of the handles G D are formed serrated semicircular notches d d e e, for receiving pipe of small sizes.
. Between the semicircular notches b b c a of the jawsA B are plane surfaces f f, and from the surfacef projects a punch, g, which is received in a die, formed in the opposite face of the jaw. Upon the outer side of the jaw B, opposite the notches b, is formed a hammerface, E.

Near the pivot of the handles 0 D,in the handle 0, is formed a recess, h, and upon the handle D, opposite the recess h, is formed a wire-cutter, h, which passes the edge of the handle G and into the recess h with a shearing-cut. The extremity of the handle 0 is provided with a chisel-edge, 'i, which may be employed as a chisel or as a screwdriver.
Upon the side of the handle 0 and of the jaw A is formed a rule, k, graduated into inches. The extremity of the handle D is provided with a tacleclaw, j. A tapering saw, Z, (shown in detail in Fig. 2,) is provided with an eye, m, which is capable of receiving the bolt a. The saw when in use is placed on the bolt between the jaws A B, and the jaws are clamped down upon the saw by means of the bolt a,when the tongs answer as a handle for the saw. The awl F (shown in Fig. 3) is used by placing its eye a 0n the punch g and allowing its shank to pass through notches formed in the adjoining faces of thejaws A B.
To add to the utility of the tool, the holes through which the bolt a passes may be screw-threaded, when the jaws may be employed as a screw-plate for cutting threads on pipes or bolts.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination tool consisting of the ban dles or limbs provided with concave notched recesses in the opposite surfaces or faces, and with jaws similarly recessed, and provided with a punch and a hammer-face, said handles also having shearingblades, and the pivotbolt and punch being adapted to permit of the application thereto of a saw-blade and an awl, respectively, substantially as and for the purpose set fort-h.
