NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
DINA JORDAN AND RUDOLPH JORDAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR-CRIMPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,252, dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed April 11, 1885. Serial No. 161,979. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, DINA JORDAN and RU- DOLPH JORDAN, both of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hair- Crimper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of our invention is to provide a new and improved device for crimping and curling hair rapidly and perfectly.
The invention consists in the combination, with a rod, of a strip hinged to the same, and of a locking device for holding the strip on the rod.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved hair-crimper opened. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same partly closed. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same entirely closed.
A rod, A, of hard wood, hard rubber, celluloid, or meta]. has one end squared, and t0 the squared end of said rod the forked end of metal strip B, having semicircular cross section or grooved longitudinally, is pivoted in such a manner that it can fit snugly against the rod A, which passes into the half-round groove. A rod or wire, 0, is pivoted to the squared end of the rod A on a side at right angles to the two sides to which the forked end of the strip B is pivoted and below the forked end of the strip B. On the free or swinging end of the wire 0 a loop-hook, D, adapted to pass around the rod A is formed at right angles to the said wire. The end of the hair to be crimped is placed on the rod A, and the strip B folded down upon the rod, and the hair E is then coiled around the rod A and strip B, and then the wire 0 is swung against the rod,and the loop hook D is passed over the end of the rod A and strip B to hold and lock we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hair-curling pin consisting of tw shanks pivoted at one end and connected by a spring-clasp at the opposite end, the face of one shank having a groove and the face of the other fitting in said groove, substantially as set forth.
2. In a hair-crimper, the combination, with a wooden, rubber, or celluloid rod, of a metal strip pivoted to the rod at one end and being circular in cross-section, and of a rod or wire pivoted to the rod at the same end at which said strip is pivoted, said rod or wire being provided at its free end with a hook for locking the recessed strip on the wooden or rubber rod, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a hair-crimper, the combination, with the rod A,of wood, hard rubbenor analogous material,of the grooved or recessed metal strip B pivoted to the rod A, and of the rod or wire 0, pivoted to the rod A at the same end at which the strip 8 is pivoted, the rod 0 swingingin a plane at right angles to the plane in which the strip B swings, substantially as herein shown and described. 4
