UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS N. POSNER, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y. ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES A. BOU- TON, OF SAME PLACE.
HAIR OR MUSTACHE CURLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,956, dated June 14, 1887.
Application tiled January 15, 1887. Serial No. 224,436. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, llIORRIS N. POSNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hair or Mustache Curler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple and effective hair or mustache curler, and which will firmly hold the end of the mustache or tuft of hair while the same is being wound around the device.
The invention consists in a device of the character described provided with a springbar for clamping the end of the mustache or tuft of hair.
The invention also consists in details of construction, hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of one of my improved hair or mustache curlers. Fig. 2 is a section on the linear to of Fig. 1.
The body A of the device is slotted or divided at its forward end, as at a, and near the said forward end is pivotally mounted a clamping-bar, B. The clamping-bar in the rear of its pivot b is pressed upward by a spring, 0,
of any preferred form, which serves to hold the bar B in its closed or normal position, as shown in full lines, Fig. 1.
In operation, the device having been heated to the required degree, the forward part of the clamp-bar B is raised by pressing its rear end downward, the end of the tuft or lock of hair, or the end of the mustache, is passed into the slot a and bent or turned under the clamp-bar B, and the said bar released, whereby thehair will be held securely without the aid of the person using the device. The whole device is then turned or revolved to wind the hair around it, and held in that position until the desired result is attained.
The device is less expensive and more easily operated than if the clamp bar were constructed to be held down by the person using the device.
It is evident that various means may be devised for holding the bar Bagainst the body A, and I do not limit myself in this respect.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the body A, having a slot, as a, in one end, of a spring-pressed clamp bar, B, mounted on said slotted end and normally pressed thereon, substantially as shown and described.
MORRIS N. POSNER.
