UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KAHTRINA SCHENK, OF MONACA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HAIR-PIN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KAHTRINA SCHENK, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Monaca, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to hair pins, and the object of my inventio-n is to furnish a hair pin with a hold-fast device for an ordinary pin, whereby a bow of ribbon, aigret, or other ornamentation can be easily and quickly connected to a hair pin.
My invention aims to provide an ordinary wire hair pin with eyes adapted to receive an ordinary pin, the eyes being formed when bending the wire to form the hair pin. The eyes are arranged adjacent to the head of the pin, whereby the pin can be firmly anchored in the hair, and the eyes are positioned in such a manner that an ordinary pin can be easily placed in engagement with said eyes to retain a bow of ribbon upon the hair pin.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is the front elevation of a pin in accordance with this invention provided with a bow of ribbon; Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation of the hair pin with an ordinary'straight pin in position, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the same.
A hair pin in accordance with this invention is made of wire similar to an ordinary Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 24, 1911.

Serial No. 640,209.
hair pin, the piece of wire being doubled upon itself to form a head l with arms 2 substantially in parallelism. The wire adjacent to the head l is bent to form eyes 3, and these eyes are bent forwardly into planes disposed at an angle to each other, as best shown in Fig. 3. 'By bending the eyes 3 forwardly suflicient clearance is provided for an ordinary straight pin 4, which is placed through the eyes 3. This pin is in advance of the hair pin and it is adapted to retain the knot 5 of a bow G in engagement with the hair pin. The eyes 3 prevent the knot 5 of the bow from sliding upon the pin et, and as the eyes are in proximity to the head l, the bow G has the appearance of being held by the head l, as the head is invisible when the hair pin is in position in the hair.
lVhat I claim is As a new article of manufacture, the combination with a pin, of a single piece of material looped to form a head and similar arms, the said piece of material being bent to forni eyes intermediate the length of the said arms with the said eyes extended forwardly at angles to the said head and at an angle to each other, the said pin adapted to be passed transversely through the said eyes, to rigidly secure a bow or the like between the said eyes.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
