UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GIUSEPPE FREGA, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURVE-SCRIBER FOR TAILORS USE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 347,760, dated August 17, 1886.
Application filed March 10, 1885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LGIUsEPrE FREGA, a citizen of the Kingdom of Italy, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cutting and Fitting Garments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to anew and useful improvement in tools or implements for cutting and fitting garments, the particular purpose or design of which is to establish with accuracy, after the prime measurements are taken and transferred upon a pattern-sheet, lines corresponding to the particular curves met with in the forms of different individuals.
In the accompanying drawings and following description I have illustrated and described my invention as applied to the establishment of the arm-hole of a coat or other garment. It will be evident, however, that the purpose of my invention may have a more general application, changes or modifications being made therein in accordance with the requirements of analogous garment curves.
In the drawings hereto annexed, wherein like letters indicate like parts throughout the several Views, Figure 1 represents the implement for establishing the scye-curve; and Fig. 2, represents, diagrammatically, the manner of using the implement.
Referring to the implement, A and B represent two arms having curved slots 0 D, and joined together by means of athumb set-screw, G, which may be loosened or set at will. The
piece A bears also the auxiliary arm E, piv-. oted thereto by a set-screw, F.
In using this implement a scye-square is established upon a pattern-sheet, preferably in the manner set forth in my pending application No. 137,405, filed July 11, 1884, and as Serial No. 158,314. (No model.)
represented in Fig. 2, wherein a part of such scye-square is shown. In said figures the numerals 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 represent different widths of the shoulder, as previously taken from the form of the person to be fitted, and transferred upon the pattern-sheet. In order, now, to establish a desired curve upon the arm-holeI loosen the set-screw G, and extend the arms ABfrom each other until their outer curves are tangent respectively with the lines 1 7 and 6 8. screw F loosened, and auxiliary arm E extended until it completes a regular curve connecting the upper parts of the two arms. The screw F is then set, and the outline of the desired curve formed by drawing upon the pattern-sheet a contour of the implement in its adjusted position, the said curve being represented by the lines 9 10 ll 12 13. In like manner, for lesser widths of the shoulder 14, &c., the curved lines 10 14 15 and 9 11 16.17
are established, and in each instance it will be' seen that the said curves correspond exactly to the desired contour of the armhole, dispensing entirely with the necessity for subsequent cutting and fitting.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an implement for cutting and fitting garments, the combination of the arms A B, the slots 0 D therein, and adjustable set-screw G, of the auxiliary curved arm E, pivoted to one of said arms, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GIUSEPPE FREGA.
The screw G is then set, the
