To all whom, it may concern:
' UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
GIUSEPPE PREGA, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TAlLoRs SQUARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,263, dated November 6, 1888.
Application led October 22, 1887. Serial No. 258,130. (No model.)
Be it known that I, GIUSEPPE FEEGA, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tailors Squares; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tailors implements or tools, designed more particularly to establish accurately, after the prime measurements have been taken, the particular curves or lines corresponding tothe varied forms of individuals, and it consists in a right-angled square provided with the usual scale, a curved portion on its inner edge, and one or more adjustable curved arms, and a curved implementprovided with a curved arm, as Willbe hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 illustrates one side of the right-angled square; Fig. 2, the reverse side of the same; Fig. 3, one side of the double-curved implement, and Fig. 4 the other side of same.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
The letter A indicates a right-angled square provided with the usual scale upon each face at the outer edge. The inner edge, a, at the juncture ot' the two arms forming the square, is curved, as shown at a', and is provided with a scale, a2, to determine the diameter -of any circumference and to lay off the lowerpart of the quarter-partition of a pair of pantaloons.
Pivoted by means of a thumb screw, B, to
the square,at theinner ed ge thereof, isa curved double arm, C, and a compound-curved arm, D. rIhe curve a and the curve of the arm C are used for the purpose of establishing the various semi-curve seams in garments, particularly the seat of pantaloons and the seams of the armhole and collar ot' coats and vests.
The letter E' indicates the double-curved implement having the usual scale at the edges thereof. The inner edge, e, is straight a portion of its length, lending in a curve. The outer edge, e', forms a compound curve. These curves are used for forming the side seams of pantaloons and side and back seams of a coat or other garment. Pivoted to the square E is a curved arm, F, which, in connection with the inner edge, e, is designed to establish the varied curves in different garments.
It will be observed that by the use of these two implements any seam in coats, pantaloons, vests, and other like garments can be readily and accurately formed and a perfect-fitting garment assured without the usual cutting and titting.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
l. A tailors square having a curved portion, ci', on its inneredge integral with said square and provided with a scale, and the curved double arm C, pivoted centrally tosaid square at the curved portion a thereof, whereby various semi-curve seams may be established, substantially as described.
2. A tailors square having a curved portion, a', integral therewith, and provided with a centrally-pivoted curved double arm, C, and a compound-curved arm, D, as set forth.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GIUSEPPE FREGA.
