CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that we, JOSEPH T. PACE and VALTER G. READ,' citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Carlyle and Huey, in the county of Clinton and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crib Attachments for Beds; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact' description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Our invention relates to crib attachments for beds, and has for its object to so connect the same with the bed that it may be readily folded beneath the same, and be out of the way and completely out of sight, and when drawn out and adjusted forms an extension to the bed.

It consists in the novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed, and shown in thc accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a plan view of a bed provided with ourimprovement, shown in a folded position, parts of the slats being broken away to more clearly show the details of construction. Fig. 2 is a side view having each end of the bed broken away. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line .e a: of Fig. 2, showing only a part of the bed. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the crib and a portion of the bed; and Figs. 5 and 6 are enlarged detail perspective views of the castings for securing the corners ofthe crib together.

The frame A of the bed is provided with slats B, in the usual manner. The crib comprises side and end bars, C and D, respectively 4o joined at the corners by castings or irons E and F, the former being on the inner side and the latter on the outer side. For convenience, that side of the crib farther from the bed when withdrawn,is designated the outer side,7 in contradistinct-ion to that side which is always beneath the bed or in close relationship thereto. Castings Ehave lateral hook-extensions e, which,passing over rods G,located beneath the slats ofthe bed, support the inner side of the crib. A further provision is made by having loops gef the wire embracing the slats, and fastened to the inner side of the crib. Castings E are provided with a second hook, e', which extends upward, and in conjunction with a similarcorrespondinghook, f, on each of the castings F, form a means for pivotally connecting the head and foot pieces II with the ends ofthe crib in such manner as to permit folding them close upon the bottom, as shown in Fig. 1. A side, I, is pivoted to the outer side ofthe bottom by means of a hook, f, on each of the castings F. The crib being withdrawn and the pieces II and I unfolded and held together near their upper edges by hooks 7L, is supported on its outer side bylegs J, pivotedin lugsf, depending from the casting F. The upper ends, j, are bent back, forming a stop, against which a spring, L, impinges to prevent the accidental folding ofthe legs. Said spring also holds the legs close to the bottoni when folded, as will be readily appreciated.

In practice, when it is desired to have the crib out of the way, the ends II and side I are disconnected from each other and folded close upon the bottom as seen in Fig. 1, then the legs may be folded, as shown in Fig. -ft. By pushing on the attachment it will slide beneath the bed and occupy the position shown in Fig. Lwhen it will be ont of the way and completely hid from sight, the outer side being held up by a button, K, on the under side of the rail of .the bed, as shown in Fig. 4.

The inner side of the crib is always supported by the hooks c and loops g, which slide 011 the rods G and slats B, respectively. The hooks and loops may be used alone, as is manifest; but by using both additional strength is gained, and the crib prevented from any sidewise motion.

Irons E and F are made of a single malleable casting, making them durable, light, and cheap.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination, with the bed and rods extended between and supported by its sides, of a crib attachment, castings secured to and braeingits innercorncrs, and having hooks extending therefrom to engage the rods and free to move thereon, substantially as described, whereby the inner side of the crib is supported in its movement from and beneath the bed.

2. The combination, with the bed having IOC slats, and rods parallel with the slats and supported by the sides of the bed, of a crib, loops extending therefrom and embracing the slats, and a castingsecuring the meeting ends of the crib, and provided with upwardly-extending hooks engaging the rods, whereby the inner side of the crib is supported and free to be moved from and beneath the bed,substantiall y as described.

3. The combination of the bed, the crib, supports therefor, folding sides and ends for the crib, and irons securing the meeting ends of the cribframe, and provided with hooks integral therewith for engaging the crib-supports, and pivotally securing the folding side and ends to the crib, substantially as set forth.

4. The combination, with the crib, folding side and ends and legs, of irons securing the meeting ends of the crib-frame, and provided with upwardly-extending hooks for pivotally securing the folding side and ends in place, and having depending lugs which afford a means of attachment for the legs, and of springs to Witnesses:
