UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN I). ZELLER, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
PLOW.
@EECIFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 346,081, dated July 20, 1886.
Application led Api-il 30, 1886.
To CLZZ whom t may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN l?. ZELLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
|This invention relates to certain improvementsin plows, and it has for its objects to provide a plow the parts of which are detachable, and those subjected to the greatest wear reversible, so that the plow will be more durable and may be easily repaired when injured, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal Vertical sectional View of the same; Fig. 3, a detached view of the standard looking at the rear ofthe same; Fig. 4, a detached View of a portion of the plowshare carrying a cutter and soderusher; and Fig. 5 is a detached view of a portion of the plowshare without the cutter and crusher.
The letter A indicates the plow-standard, which may be constructed of iron or steel and cast in one piece, with suitable seats for the various detachable parts. The lower portion of said standard is cast with a socket or rccess, B, for the reception ofthe reversible bar O,which forms the point of the plowshare when the parts are secured together complete. The said bar is constructed preferably of steel, and has a series of apertures, D, at suitable intervals, by means of which it may be adj ustably Serial No. 200,691. (No model.)
secured in place by the screw-bolts E, which pass through suitable apertures in the standard for the purpose, and are confined by means of nuts F below. The forward portion of the standard is curved and beveled,so as to form a seat for the mold-board G and the detachable parts H and I, constituting parts of the plowshare, the part I being detachable and reversible. The standard is also formed with a seat, L, for the detachable landside M, which is secured thereto by means of suitable screw bolts. The mold-board, as well as the lower reversible portion of the plowshare, are also V secured by screw-bolts, and t-he various bolts are all conned by means of nuts on the lower or inside portion of the standard.
It will be evident that as the parts constituting the share are all detachable, and those most subject to wear reversible, that the plow may be made much more durable and more easily repaired when injured.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination, in a plow, of the curved standard A, cast in one piece of metal with seats for the various parts, the adjustable and reversible bar C, the mold-board G, and dctachable parts H and I, constituting the plowshare, the whole being arranged and secured together substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN I. ZELLER.
