SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 345,769, dated July 20, 1886.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES C. CARY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 9 Walker street, city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Household Furniture, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in household furniture, and it is especiallyap plicable to means for rigidly securing together ornamental strips, as will be fully understood from the following description,when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a representation of a head-board of a bedstead, showing my improvement applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views in detail showing my improved socketbearing or link and the rivet-connection, and Fig. 4 shows the socket-bearing detached from the strips of bent wood.
A designates the head-board of a bedstead to which my invention is applied; but it will be obvious from the following description that the invention is applicable to other articles of furniture. This head board is constructed with curved or bent strips B, which I prefer to ornament" with acorns or other fanciful bosses or protuberances G, as shown in the annexed drawings, and the said strips are secured to the posts. O designates a link or socket-bearing, which is between the bent strips B, and which serves, in combination with a rivet, D, to rigidly unite the said strips. It will be observed that the said link or socket Oprevents lateral and also vertical displacement of the strips B when JAMES C. GARY.
