Description

into two parts, a a".
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY O. KELSEY, OF \VEST SALAMANCA, NE VV YORK.
SAW-TOOTH-DRESSING DEVICE.
fiPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,583, dated April 27, 1886.
Application filed February 10, 1886. Serial No. 191,481. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. KELsnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vest Salamanca, in the county of Oattaraugus and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw-Teeth-Dressing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in saw-teeth-dressing devices; and it consists, essentially,in a device adapted to receive one or more filesections, to be set to receive sawblades of different thicknesses, and, after having been set, to be operated by hand, for the purpose of dressing or sharpening sawteeth. substantially as described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of asaw-dressing deviceembody ing my improvements. Fig. 2 represent-s a side view thereof. Fig. 3 is an edge view, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 00 x of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts, A designates a body or casting, preferably of brass, but which may be made of any suitable spring-metal. a designates a slit that extends from side to side of the casting and divides it At the point a" the slit is broadened and terminates at the lower end of the casting at a in rounded portions a that operate as springs to open outward the parts a a, as will be hereinafter set forth. The sides a a are cut away at a, for the purpose of form ing side arms, I), that receive and hold filesections B in recesses b",formed in the adjacent inner faces of the side arms, b.
c c designate adjusting or gripping screws that extend from one to the other of the arms I) at each side of the casting, as shown. The sides and bottom of the casting A are hollowed out or cut away, as shown at d cl, for the purpose of lightening the casting.
D designates an adjusting-screw that passes from one to the other of the sections a a, for the purpose of adjusting said sections and their contained file-sections B nearer to or farther from each other to suit saws of diflerent thicknesses.
In practice the sides a a are adjusted to the proper distance from each other to permit a saw-blade to be introduced between the filesections 13. The casting is now moved back and forth, the filesections B thereon operat ing to dress the sides of the teeth to a uniform thickness, as will be understood.
Modifications in detail of construction may be made in the herein-described invention without departing from the spiritor sacrificing the ad vantages thereofas, for instance, blocks of emery may be used in lieu of the files.
I claim 1. The improved saw-dressing device consisting of a casting, A, provided with a slit, a, to receive a saw, file-sections B, to dress the sides of said saw, and adjusting means to ad just said sections, substantially as described.
2. The improved saw-dressing device consisting of a casting having a slit, a, extending from its top nearly to its bottom, as shown, and arms b and transverse adjusting-screws c c, said arms having recesses b", to receive filesections B, and an adjusting-screw to adjust said sections nearer to or farther from each other, substantially as described.
3. The body A, provided with a central slit or opening to receive the saw, and a tilesection on each side of the opening, as set forth.
4. The body A, provided with a central slit or opening, forming arms, and seats a in the arms to receive the tile or emery sections, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY o. KELSEY.
itnesses ALBERT A- BIRD, J OSHUA E. CHAMPLIN.
