Description

var-e UNITED STATES HARRY D. PLACE,
PATENT OEFIcE.
OF NEWARK, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE FOURTH TO OLIVER P. SOOK, OF SAME PLACE.
SCOURlNG-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340.059. dated April 13, 1886.
Appicationfileil September 17. 1885. Serial No. 177,366. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY D. PLACE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New-v ark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in scouring-Boxes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a top view without the cover. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section with the cover on. Fig. 3 isa perspec-' tive view of the scouring piece. Fig. 4 is a cross-section taken where the broken line as a; is marked on Fig. 2.
My invention relates to scouring-boxes to be used for scouringknives, forks, 8m; and it consistsin the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the base of the device, B, the powder-box, and O the inclined scouring block, secured to the base A in front of the powder-box. The base A projects at both sides and both ends beyond the parts which rest upon and are secured to it, to form aledge for the cover D to rest upon when in place. The powder-box B is rectangular in its interior, and the two sides of the same, which are parallel with the sides of the base, have their inner end edges inclined from above downwardly and toward the scouringblock O. The scouring-block Ois in the form of an inclined plane,
and two of the scouring-blocks are formed by f cutting an elongated rectangular block diagonally and laterally from the corner at one end to the corner at the other end, so that from the rectangular block two wedge-shapad scouring-blocks are formed. Upon its upper face, and along and parallel with its inclined edges, the scouringblock O is provided with beads or guard-pieces F F, which are sectorshaped in cross section, their arcs being presented toward the face of the scouringblock, their office being to prevent the escape of the scouring-powder at the sides of the scouring-block.
The rubber or scouring-piece consists, preferably, ofa wooden holder or hand-piece, a, with a felt or cork face or filling, b,- but any rubber desired may be used.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, the scouringbox described, consisting of the base having its edges extended to forma support for the cover, the inclined scouring-block secured to the said base and provided with the parallel edge heads, the powder-box having side extensions inclined toward the scouringblock, and the cover, all constructed substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the base and the inclined scouring block, of the powder-box having the projecting sides with inclined edges, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY D. PL ACE.
