Description
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM EDSON, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
DlSINFECTlNG-MAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,557. dated February 23, 1886.
Application filed January 31, 1885. Serial No. 154,567.
.To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM EDsoN, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Disinfccting-Mats, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
Myinvention has for its object so constructing a mat that it may contain a convenient receptacle for disinfecting substances, which may be readily removed from the mat when exhausted. I attain this object by the devices shown in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of my mats as it appears when complete. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a device that I use for holding the disinfecting material; and Fig. 3 is a cross vertical section of my mat.
In making my mat I do not confine myself to any particular construction, as the invention may be embodied in a great variety of styles, shapes, and'sizes.
In the drawings, A represents the mat proper, and B a lining. The two parts A and B are joined together on three sides, and left (No model.)
open at one end, as indicated in Fig. 1. Thus a bag is formed which serves to hold the disinfecting material.
In Fig. 2 I have shown a quilt, c, the interior of which is filled with the disinfect-ant. The quilt 0 (shown at Fig. 2) is to be inserted into the bag formed by the mat A and its lining B. (See Figs. 1 and 2.)
Any of the well-known dry disinfectants may be used, either simple or compounded, and in case the chemical is deliquescent, or even liquid, it may be mixed with some absorbent-sawdust, for instance.
When desired, the quilt or receptacle 0, Fig. 2, may be filled with a sachet of perfumepowder, or a compound of disinfecting and perfuming powders can be used.
That I claim is The combination of the mat A B with the receptacle or quilt c, said receptacle or quilt being filled with a disinfecting or perfuming substance.
IVILLI'AM EDSON.
