JEREMIAH CLINTON HILL, OF IVILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
POUNCE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICA TION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,848, dated August 19, 1884.
(No mod cl 1b (10% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH C. HILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of ll'illiamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pounce- Ilolders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which .Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pounce-holder. Fig, 2 is a similar view of the pounce-ball and its handle, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the complete device.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to devices for holding and using pounce ofthat class in which the pounce material is contained within a suitable bag and used by rubbing the said bag against the paper where the erasure has been made; and it consist s in the improved construction ofa device of that class which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, A denotes a cylindrical box, made of any suitable mate rial, and I) is the pounce-ball. The. latter is constructed of ehamois-skin or undressed kid, and has a. number of very fine apertures. (Indicated at G.) This ball is filled with any suitable pounce material-such as powdered cut-tie fish bone, resin, or gum sandarac, finely powdered. The upper part of the bag is gathered and tied to form a neck, D, which is inserted into a recess, E, in the overlapping top part, F, of the handle, (shown at G,) and fastened therein by suitable glue or cemcut. This part F overlaps the top of the box, and thus effectually excludes dust, so that the ball will always be clean and ready for immediate use without requiring it to be first wiped off.
I am aware that Letters Patent No. 84,346 were granted to Cushrnan and Dennis on the ZAthd-ay of November, 1868, for a ball or bag of leather or skin secured to a handle and filled with pulverized chalk or similar material, and I do not wish to claim such construction, broadly; but
I claim- The herein described pounce-holder, the same consisting of the box or inclosure A, foraminated pounce-ball B, of chamois or similar material, containing suitable pounce material, and having the neck I), and the handle G, having the overlapping cover F, provided with a central recess, E, for the permanent attachment of the pounce bag or holder, sub stantially as and for the purpose shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto a'tfixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JEREMIAH CLINTON HILL.
