Description

PATENTED FEB. 20, 1906.
J. WOLFE. HOUSEHOLD CLEANER.
APPLIOATION FILED JAN.19. 1905.
vwemtoz VFW Z v 2? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIGE.
HOUSEHOLD-CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1906-.
Application filed January 19,1905. Serial No. 241,777.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIE WOLFF, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Household-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
In the use of cleaning compoundssuch, for instance, as Sapolio, wh ch come in solid cakesvery often the cake becomes broken and crumbles after some usage and soaking in water.
It is my object to produce a receptacle which will contain the cleaning substance and which may be used with the cleaning substances contained therein, thus utilizing the material while it remains in solid form or crumbles in pieces and making it unnecessary to handle the compound itself. The receptacle also provides a convenient means for gripping the material and for like puroses.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my cleaner, partlybroken away. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the top drawn together.
I have illustrated a solid piece of cleaning material 1, such as is usually sold for house hold purposes and for which I provide a receptacle 2. This may be made of canvas or any other flexible material, the lower part of which is provided with straight sides and ends 3 for containing the cake and from which extends an upper flap 4, which is provided with a draw-string 5, by which the flap may be pulled together, as shown in Fig. 3. This holds the material in the package and provides a convenient means for gripping the latter.
I The bottom 6 or face of the package is made of some tough flexible materialsuch,
' for instance, as leather-and is provided with a number of apertures 7, through which the water and cleaning material may enter and pass out. End pieces 8, which are sewed to the package at the four corners, are made integral with the bottom 6 and tend to stiffen the package and better secure the bottom to the package.
For cleaning, the package is used by gripping the top flap and rubbing over the surface to be cleaned. No matter how the cleaning material may break or crumble it is always contained in the package and is easily gripped. At the same time it is not neces sary to handle the cleaning material itself.
Having described my invention, what I claim is A cleaner for household purposes comprising a bag for cleaning compound, the bag having a bottom made of tough, flexible material, having corner-strips turned up and secured to the bag, the bottom having apertures therein and a flap for closing the said bag.
Signed this 17th day of January, 1905.
JULIE WOLFF.
