' ARTHUR KGHLER, OF OHEMNITZ, SAXONY, GERMANY.
BUTTON OR GLOVE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,669,'dated January 19, 1886.
Application tiled October 20, 1885. Serial No.180,7lr6. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR KoHLER, a subject 'of the Duke of SaXe-Altenburg, residing at Ohernnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toa button or fastener forgloves and similar articles. It consists in the elements of construction hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top View, partly in section, of my fastener. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view thereof. Fig. 3 is a top View of the same, showingit in position while being opened or closed. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show a modified form of the button in side, top, and front View.
The ball k is fastened to the part hof the garment by means of the plates p and p", and a stud, .9, covered by a bell, g, is secured to the part h of the garment by means of the plates q g d (1 represent two shanks of a wire, which are bent so as to cross themselves, and to thus 'form two loops.
.One of theseloops embraces the stud 8, while the other loop embraces the The free ends of the wire shanks d d terminate in balls is k".
In opening or closing the garment, the balls is k are forced toward each other, to bend the wire shanks d d", and to permit the ball is to pass out from between them. The device shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6 is also opened by pressing the balls 70 k one against the other, the only difference between this button and that which is above described consisting in the form of the plates bearing the stud s and the ball 76*.
The plates q and p are provided with small hooks, which are thrust through the garment and then bent over. r
I do not broadly claim to have invented a fastener consisting of two balls attached to a pair of spring-shanks, and adapted to interlock with a third ball attached to a neck, as such a construction is shown in Patent No. 281,376, granted to E. J. Kraetzer, July 17, 1883; but
I do claim 1. The combination of the wire shanks d (1 crossed to form two loops, and carrying balls is k, with the stud s and with the ball If, all being so constructed that the stud s and the shank of ball k are embraced by said loops, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of wire shanks d d", crossed to form two loops, with the balls It It? It and with the stud 8, bell g, and plates 19 q, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR KtjHLER.
