NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANNAH M. BRUSH, OF MANISTEE, MICHIGAN.
STOVE-HOOD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,055, dated December 22, 1885.
Application filed October 4, 1883. Renewed May 13, 1885. Serial No. 165,348. (No model.)
To ail whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HANNAH M. BRUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manistee, in the county of Manistee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Hoods; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stove-hoods, and has for its objects to save fuel and to protect the articles which are being cooked from dirt and dies. These objects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, in which- Figure l is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a detailed view. Fig. 3 is a plan. Fig. 4 is a plan view in detail of one of stove-pipe bands with the pipe on the inside of it.
The letter A indicates one half of the hood and the letter A' the other half.
B are hood-doors, which are hinged at B', and are intended to be opened for the examination of the progress of the cooking, thereby obviating the necessity of opening the entire hood for this purpose.
C is the stove-pipe.
D is a latch, which engages with the catch E, by means of which the parts of the hoodA and A are held together in front, and when disconnected from each other permit these parts to be swung on the joints or hinges G, whereby the whole top of the stove M maybe exposed to view, in order to reach the culinary vessels thereon.
F are bands surrounding the stove-pipe, and are secured thereto by the lugs N and screwbolts N', and have lugs H, with circular open- 4o ings, for the introduction of the long bolt L.
G are lugs at the top and bottom of the hood,
four in number, and are each provided With an opening for the introduction of long bolts L, threaded at their lower ends, and provided with nuts l, by means of which they are securely held in their proper position, and in such a manner that when ythe latch D is unfastened either half of the hood may be freely turned upon the joint thus formed. The hood may be made of any suitable shape and of any size to fit stoves in common use, and as the heat from the top of the stove is held therein fuel is economized.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and to claim 1sl. In combination, the stove M, pipe C, the bands F, having lugs H, the lugs G, and the hood A A', as described, the said bands F being located and arranged, respectively, near the upper and lower rear inner corners ofthe said sections A A', for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the stove and its pipe, of the divided hood A A, having the lugs G at top and bottom of each of its seetions, the bands F, surrounding the pipe and carrying thelugs H, the rod L, passing through said lugs, and the fastening devices D and E, for holding the sections of the hood together, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof Iaflix mysignaturein presence of two witnesses.
HANNAH M. BRUSH.
Witnesses:
