FEED-WATER HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,667, dated October 29, 1895.
Application filed August 28, 1895- Serial No. 560,785. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it iii/cry concern..-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed Water Heaters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to feed-water heaters provided with shelves inclined longitudinally,
so that the water passing over them in a thin sheet may precipitate thereon the coarser impurities and thus only leave the lighter and smaller impurities to be removed by a filter. These shelves require to be cleaned frequently, and it is a matter of great importance to have quick and easy access to thern,so that they may be quickly as well as thoroughly cleaned. My invention consists in making the shelves each in two parts and each part hinged to the side of the heater, so that they may be swung down within easy reach of a person within the heater.
Figure l of the drawings is a vertical section showing the shelf in position for use, and Fig. 2 a similar View showing the shelf in position to be cleaned.
In the drawings, A represents a shelf in the heater B and made in two sections a a, each hinged to the side of heater by means of the eyes 0, riveted to the side of the heater, and the pintles D on said sections.
In order to support the shelf in its intended position, I employ the braces E, one end of which is connected with the bottoms of the shelf-sections by the angle-bars II and screws I, while the other end is connected with the shelf of the heater by the angle-bars F and screws G.
As the sections are not closely jointed together in front, I make them with the upturned flanges ct and break the joint by an inverted -V plate J.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
1. In feed water heaters and purifiers, an inclined shelf in two longitudinal sections, each section hinged on one side to the shell of heater and provided on the opposite side with a vertical flange as shown and described.
2. In feed Water heaters and purifiers, the combination with hinged shelf-sections substantially as shown, of braces jointed to angle-bars on the bottom of the shelf sections and the sides of the shell of the heater as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM S. SIMPSON.
