IMPROVEMENT IN HgOODS FOR FIRE-PLACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,649, dated August 28, 1877; application filed February 17, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT CLAYTON, of
Lexington, in thecounty of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hood and Heat-Reflector for Fire-Places, of which the following is a specification:

The object of this invention is to furnish'an improved device for attachment to fire-places to prevent smoke, heat, and ashes from rising up about the mantle-piece, and at the same time to reect the heat downward and outward into the room.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then be pointed out in the claim.
A represents the lire-place, which is lined with lire-brick, and provided with a grate in the usual way. B is the hood and reflector, which may be made of any sheet metal that will take a polish and reect heat. The hood B is arched, and its rear edge is concaved to give the retlector an upward inclination.

What I claim as new and of my invention 1s- A metallic sheet, B, arched, concaved on rear edge, having spring-clamp b1, and provided with hooks b2, as shown and described, to form a hood for lire-places.
