FURNACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent- No. 246,561, dated August 30, 1881. Application filed July 1I 1881. (N0 model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS R. SASSINOT and MAX L. O. HUET, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Portable Furnace, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is toprovide a new and improved portable furnace, which is light, strong, and durable.
The invention consists-in a portable furnace formed of a cylindrical or square metal box containing a basket for the burning fuel, which basket is provided with a series of books, which are hooked on the edge of the exterior vessel.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-sectional elevation of my improved furnace, and Fig. 2 is a plan view'of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
' The cylindrical or like casing A is provided with legs B, with a sliding door, (J, and 'with pivoted swinging handles D D at the upper end. The upper end, E, of the casing A is placed outward, so as to produce a larger heating-surface or larger cross-section of the furnace on top. A conical basket, F, is provided with three iron bars or strips, G, which are bent over at the upper ends to form hooks H,
of the basket. The bars or stripsH are to be of such thickness that a sufficient space will be formed between the bottom of the pot, pan, or kettle and the upper edge of the outwardflaring part E of the casing A to permit the gases, smoke, &c., to pass off through this space. The basket F, containing the fire, can be placed in the casing A or removed very easily and rapidly.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a portable furnace, the combination, with the casing A, of the conical basket F, the bars G, bent to form hooks H atthe upper ends and lugs J at the lower ends, and of the perforated bottom K of the basket, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
