FIG A Wdwmr I @zw ww fl I 4 w ga @gw W $17M M w y NITED STATES PATENT Farce,
PHILIP HAFFA, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
STEAM-COOKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters .Patent No. 248,309, dated October 18, 1881.
Application filed July 8, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, PHILIP HAFFA, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam-Cookers, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of pans having annular projections on their upper edges with sectional annular flanges on the case of the cooker and the door on one side of the same for holding the pans in th ir normal position, as hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved cooker. Fig. 2 is a vertical section at the line w of Fig. 1, the
door D being open. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section at the line 3 y of Fig. 1, the door D being closed. Fig. 4 is a top view of the plate or dish holder.
Like letters of refereneein all the figures indicate the same parts.
A represents the boiler of my improved cooker, and B the case or shell, which surrounds the series of pans G. The lower end of the case is connected with the boiler in the usual manner to admit of being readily conneoted therewith or removed therefrom when required. The drawings represent the upper end closed; but if desired it may be provided with a detachable cover.
The case is made of suitable height to contain the desired number of pans, three of which are represented in the drawings.
In order to provide for removing either pan from the case without disturbing either of the others, the case is provided with an opening, a, in one side equal to the height of the combined series of pans, and in breadth nearlythe internal diameter of the case, as represented in Figs. 1 and 3, and the pans have circumferential projections l), which rest on flanges b and b respectively, of the case and door D, which closes the opening a, these supporting-flanges being made in sections, as represented more clearly in Fig. 3, in which the sections b are fast to the case B, and the sections 12 are fast to the inner surface of the door. The front ends of the sections 1) project a short distance in front of the vertical edges 0 c of the door-opening a, so that there will be sufficient support for the pans to hold them steadily until the door is closed, and the flanges b on its inner surface complete the annular support.
If desired, the supporting-flanges may consist of undivided rings, fastened only to the sufficiently perforated, the scallopingvmay be omitted.
E is a detachable plate above the upper pan, 0, which is supported by a flange, d, on the inner surface of the case and flange cl of the door D in the same manner as the pans are supported by the flanges b and D The plate is to serve for holding plates or dishes.
For the purpose of roasting or browning a turkey or other article of food, there is a hook, G, for holding it, in combination with the swivel f, which turns freely in a bearing in the top plate of the case B, as represented in Fig. 2. The swivel is provided with aring, f, which serves in the manipulation of the hook for turning theturkey around.
It will readily be seen that by bringing the door D to its open position, as seen in Fig. 1, and placing the cooker so as to have the dooropening in front of a range or other heater, the heat therefrom will flow through the interior of the cooker and brown the meat and other things in the pans O, and that by removing the pans when a turkey or other thing is to be roasted or browned and connecting it with the hook G, such object maybe completely accomplished, the hook being turned around by hand or otherwise.
Iclaim as my invention The combination of the pans 0, having annular projections b at their upper edge, with the case B, having a door-opening at one side and flanges b projecting in front of the dooropening, and flanges b on the door, meeting the ends of the flanges b, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
THOMAS J. BEWLEY, STEPHEN USTICK.
