GEORGE W. KEPLINGER, OF NORTONVILLE, KENTUCKY.
SAD-IRON V HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 1917.
Applcation led October 28, 1915. Serial No. 58,361.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE IV. Knr- LINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nortonville, in the county of Hopkins and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sad iron heaters and aims to provide a device of this character which is adapted to be attached to the grate of a coal stove or the like.
Referring to the drawings;
Figure l is a side elevation of the sad iron heater showing its method of attachment to the grate;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view partly broken away; and Y Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the device.
The sad iron heater consists of a metal box which is substantially conoidal in shape and has its base open as shown in Fig. 2. The apex 2 of the conoidal receptacle or box is adapted to form one of the end walls thereof and extending forwardly in a straight line from the base of the apex 2 is a shelf 3 which is adapted to receive the sad irons to be heated.
The opposite sides of the box are provided with handles 4 by which the same may be lifted from place to place.
The top wall 5 of the box or receptacle is pivoted at 6 to the side walls 7, and said top wall 5 is provided with a handle 8 by which it may be swung upon its pivot when it is desired to insert or remove the sad irons from the shelf 3.
The rear wall 2 is pivotally connected to the side walls as at 9 and said rear wall is provided with a handle l0 by which the same may be swung upon its pivot 9.
Secured to each of the side walls 7 of the box at the front edges thereof is a bracket ll, which has rearwardly extending portions 12 which forms the means for securing the brackets to the side walls of the receptacle. Extending forwardly from each of the brackets 11 is a hook 13, and as shown in Fig. l said hook is adapted to receive the upper edge of the grate 14, the bracket 11 lying in engagement with the front of the grate to support the box or the receptacle with its open end adjacent said grate.
The rear end of the box or receptacle is provided .with depending legs 14 by which the same may be supported from the floor or the like.
Having thus described my invention what is claimed and desired to protect by Letters Patent is:
The combination in a heater for sad irons of a casing having a bottom and side walls converging toward their outer ends, a closure pivoted to the upper side of said casing and closing the same, a closure pivoted to the outer end of the casing and engaging the first mentioned closure for completely closing the outer end of the casing, the inner end of said casing being opened, brackets secured to the opposite sides of theV casing and including vertical members having outwardly directed arms secured to the sides of the casing and a hook at the upper end for engaging a grate or the like, legs secured to the opposite ends of the casing for resting upon the iioor to support the outer end thereof, and a shelf disposed within said casing.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Gr. W. KEPLINGER.
