To (1% whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AY HAMILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Glens Falls, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Awning-Supports for Hammocks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to awning-supports designed for swinging hammocks; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of the awning-support embodying my improvements, the same being in position for supporting the hammock. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of one of the folding supports for the frame, said support having four legs and the hinged connecting-rods to control the extension of the legs of the support. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the folding top frame, and Fig. 4is a detail view of the said frame folded.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the folding support. This support A consists of a cuniform headblock, A, having pairs of arms A of equal length, between each pair of which is pivoted a supporting-leg, A. The legs A are conneoted and braced in their extended positions Serial No. 164,924. (No model.)

by three link-rods, O G O, which are pivoted to three of the supporting-legs and connected at their inner ends by a ring or link, D. The folding frame 13 consists of a sectional hinged middle bar, L, a sectional top slat, M, between which are pivoted cross-bars N, and to the outer ends of the cross-bars are pivoted sectional side bars, N, the structure being such that the frame B can be extended and retracted after the manner of lazy-tongs, and that the two sections may be folded one upon the other in order to economize space when storing or transporting the frame. The head-blocks of the supports are each provided with staples or rings S on their under sides with which to connect the ropes which support the hammock when the latter is swung up.

An awning is usually employed in connection with the hammock-frame to protect the occupant or occupants from the sun or rain. The awning may consist of a canvas or other suitable material laid upon the frame M.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

The combination, with the sectional hinged middle bar, L, sectional top slat, M, and the pivoted cross-bars N, of the sectional side bars, N, pivoted to said cross-bars to serve with the supports, substantially as specified.
