Description

H. NOBLIT.
Iron Fence.
Patented Sept. 3, 1861i UNITED STATES PATENT OEEicE.
HENRY N OBLIT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN METAL FENCES.
1'0 @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY NoBLIT, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Fastening Iron Fence- VRailing Together; and I do hereby declare t hat the following is a full and exact descripiionthereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.`
The nature of my invention consists of a button of cast-iron or other metal used in the construction ot' iron railing and a recess ot railing adjustable to the button.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my button of iron or other metal in form as shown at letter a in the drawing, and my recess of railing of the same material, and, as shown at letter b, applicable to any design for railing, making or casting each railing, as at e, withfour of such recesses, two at the top and two at the bottom', 0n the counterpart of the railing running across from one recess to the otherIhave a half-diamond groove, (marked g,) into which fits the stayrail, (marked 6,) which passes through a diamond opening in the rear of the button, (marked (L) which stay-rail can be extended to any required length, the whole being brought compactlyin place by means of theiuutfon the screw at either end of the stay-rail, all of which is shown in the drawings, the button or disk-like projection serving to cover and protect the points of the sections or panels.
By this improvement any desired shape or formcan be given to the fence, either for inside or outside of a circular plot or for an oblong or serpentine plot, the simplicity of adjustinent bringing it Within the power of a child to fix the buttons at their proper distances on the stay-rail and button the rails to their places. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
