IMPROVEMENT IN MAKING BURGLAR-PROOF SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 30,398, dated October 16, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES It. FLOYD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in the manufacture of burglar-proof safes by the employment of a material which cannot be drilled or broken into; and I do hereby declare and ascertain my said invention.
Heretofore many attempts have been made to construct a safe of iron which could not be drilled or broken into, but, as yet, without success. Of this characteris the safe of Lilley; but this'safe can be readily drilled and blown open, and does not afford that entire protection which by my discovery I have succeeded in giving to such a structure. I form a safe of cast metal; but, as its figure and dimensions are optional and. well known, I make no claim to that, nor does it form any portion ofmy invention or discovery. Hence I make no drawings of any particular-shaped safe, but leave that to the taste ofthe constructer. The material which I use, and which I have discovered The employment of the above describfd V frankliniteorother similarly-constituted metal in forming cast-metal safes, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
