Description

'UNlTED STATES PATENT EEQE.
EDVIN PARKS, OF 'INCHENDON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FAUCET.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 32,888, dated July 23, 1861.
To atl whom it 'muy concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN PARKS, of lViiichendoii, in the county of TWorcester and State of h/lassachusetts, have invented an improved Tapping-Faucet, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in Wliicl Figure l is a view of the faucet-Fig. 2 a longitudinal section through the saine.
To enable. others skilled in the art to maiiufacture and to use iny improved faucet l will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A is an ordinary Wooden faucet to which is adapted the prolongation or addition B, which may be made of iron or other suitable metal. Upon the extreme end of the piece B is a boring tap c immediately behind which is a chamber CZ for the reception of the chipswthe chamber being separated from the passage through the faucet by the partition g, so that the chips are pref vented from entering the faucet and obstructing the passage through it. A screw 7iy is eut upon the exterior' of the metallic portion B and at m there is a shoulder which bears against the head of the caslrand assists to close the joint at this point-the liquid enters by the openings z'. rIhe faucet when used is bored directly into the barrel or other vessel Without the necessity of first making a liole for it-the chaniber d receiving the chips and keeping them from entering` the passage f. rlhe faucet is entered sufficiently far to pass the holes z' entirely through the barrel head, and bring the shoulder m up against its exterior, it may be turned by hand or by an ordinary bit stock, a metallic square 7c of a size adapted to the bit stock being fitted into the head of the faucet. Any style of boring instrument that Will answer the purpose may be einployed, and the faucet in lieu of being of Wood niay be made entirely of metal, these details forming no part of my invention.
lliat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Tlie bit c iii combination with the chamber (Z as applied to a faucet for the purpose described.
