(Cl. 24-161) The button pin of this invention is designed primarily for the housewife to save her time and annoyance at the last minute by pinning on an ordinary button instead of sewing it on the buttonless garment.
FIGURE 1 shows the button pin in its open position wherein the parts thereof are aligned ready for threading through the garment.
FIGURE 2 shows a button pin in its closed position with the pointed end of the pin retained within a guard.
The button pin is a combination of a small safety pin, after use, and a straight pin, before use, and should be manufactured from both pliable and unpliable metals that are rust-proof. Make the pin part 2, 3, and 4 straight and long enough to thread the holes on the outside of a button, plus a loop for inside re-enforcement, thus securing the button to the outside of the garment, While pinned to the inside of the garment. However, the straight part 2 of the pin, next to the safety-catch 1, should be thicker and unpliable to benefit a flat position of the button pin underneath the button being pinned on. The opposite and sharp needle end 4 of the straight part of the button pin should, also, be unpliable for safety-catching. Only the center part 3 of the straight part of the button pin is pliable (as for example a copper wire thread) and should be encased into both unpliable ends of the button pin.
After the button is sewed to the outside of a garment with the pliable part of the pin, the remaining part of the pliable pin should be looped on the inside of the garment for stability of the button sewed and for re-enforcement of the safety catch. This is accomplished by manually looping the pliable part of the button pin on the inside of the garment before final pinning of the button to the gar ment. 7
The invention having been set forth what is new ant useful is:
A button pin adapted to be threaded through a fabri( to retain a button thereon, said button pin having a wire shank and a guard secured to one end of the shank, thr other end of the shank being pointed to facilitate threading through the garment and an associated button, the enc portions of the shank being formed from unpliable mate rial and the central portion of the shank being formec from pliable material, the shank having sufiicient rigidit; so that the end portions and central portion thereof arc normally aligned and the central portion of the shanl being sufficiently pliable so that it may be looped upor itself after the pointed end has been threaded through the button and back through the fabric to form a closed adapted to press against the fabric and to bias the pointec end of the shank against the guard to retain the pointec' end therein.
